I am located in Westminster, MD, just NW of BWI(Baltimore), can anyone
recommend someone in the MD, VA, PA, NJ area who can give me some spin
training?...Or does anyone in these groups have a plane that they spin
on a regular basis that would be willing to help me and get me used to
them...Have plane, will fly to them...Thanx in advance...

One of the regular posters on this group, Rob Fiscella does aerobatic
training in his 150 Aerobat. I think it is at MTN.

The international Aerobatics Club is the best place to look for spin
training. There site has a list of schools. It is an older list and may be
a little out of date. but you can also find the closest chapter to you and
contact them to find out who instructs in your area.

There's a guy in Sussex NJ (Jim Chaduon?) who gives spin and other acro
training in a Pitts and a Decathlon. The name of the flight school is
Airbatix, or something like that.

It's probably further than you wanted to travel; Sussex is about as far
from BWI as you can get and still be in NJ :-)

I send my CFI students to Bill Finnigan at Lee-Anapolis. He is a
nationally-known aerobatics instructor who gives a really good
introduction to spins in his S2B. 410-956-0047/410-263-2740. It is
pricey (over $180/hour) but well worth it. Given the climb rate of an
S2B, you probably get a lot more spins per dollar than you can with
Joe Shadetree and his 152. You certainly get more knowlege per
dollar.

I don't know the guys name Steve, but you can ask Pat Sands at W54. He
knows a guy who'll do it in a Pitts. I think he comes to you so you don't
have to wait!

I'll second a previous recommendation to try Bill Finagin in Annapolis.

I've flown with Bill many times and consider him to be one the best
instructors I've ever flown with, as well as one of the most experienced
aerobatic pilots in the country. He competes in the Advanced category at
International Aerobatic Club contests and if you're interested, he'll
introduce you to spin modes that you don't even know exist! :)

And.......the Pitts is a ride you won't forget!

G'day,

As an alternative, try Nancy Lynn at Bay Bridge
Airport (W29). Nancy is a competition acrobatic pilot
who gives instruction in an Extra 300!
Call Aerosource at 1-800-840-0845 for
contact info.

Bill Finagin of Dent-Air at Annapolis (ANP). He trains in a Pitts S-2B. He's
an excellent instructor. His rates are more than you'll pay to spin in a
C-152 Aerobat, but in the time you climb to altitude in an Aerobat you'll
already have learned to spin the Pitts.

The only problem with Nancy Lynn is her attitude. When I last talked to her
about doing spin training, she made it quite clear that she teaches
competition aerobatics. If you get training from her, you get it in that
context. For someone who wants to learn something about spins and has no
interest in competition aerobatics this attitude is a hinderance, not a
benefit.

Perhaps she's changed her attitude since then, but it'd be worth asking
first.

I know and have flown with Nancy. She is a protege of Bill's and also
very good.

Another possibility is Sport Aviation at Van Sant, PA. (Just across the
river from Frenchtown, NJ. I don't have their # handy, but it is in the
Aerodrome/Facilities directory (I think it's called?).) They have a Cub,
Champ, Decathlon and 150 aerobat to choose from. (There's a great
Stearman, too, but I think you would probably want to wait for spring
for that one.) The instructors there all seem really good.

Have fun wherever you choose, rick

I'd suggest Bruce Everett, East Coast Unlimited Aerobatic Champ, based
at Doylestown PA (DYL). He instructs in a Pitts S2B. Rates are
somewhere around $175 a lesson, and well, well worth it.
