Anybody have a good idea what the installed weight of a VW conversion
would be?

Thanks, Kevin

I am planning on using one in my Zodiac. Don't quote me on this, but I
believe the total weight for a 2185cc engine with accessories is
around 190 pounds.

How much hp do those produce, and how inexpensive are they? I
need 20 to 30 hp, would this be too big?

what you need is a 1/2 vw conversion. with no accessories they come in at
around 70 pounds I think. Fairly cheap to put together.

Most VW's produce about 64-82 HP. More than you want. But, a lot of
people are doing 1/2 VW's, essentially whacking off 1/2 the engine to
yeild a small 2 cylinder of about 28-35 HP, and a lot less weight. I
can get the names of some people that do this if you want. I think
Great Plains Aircraft does it, a guy here in Atlanta does, and several
other can do this mod. Pretty popular I guess.

The small VW will produce 60-65 HP and fully setup with dual ignition will
cost about 5K.

if I read it correctly the Corby Starlet plan (dwg 1) shows
155lb for a 60hp veewee.(although the veewee can be increased in hp without
increases in weight)
