Hey Roy, is the book in a reproducable form or is it bound so as to
complicate things? If it's reproducable, can we see about getting
premission to do it so that it can be shared with those of us that
don't have copies? With the renewed interest, it looks like we might
just have to discuss putting up a site...Comments?

Here's Charlie, with some good news:

Yep! True to my word I've found my copy of the BROKAW BULLET AIRCRAFT Design
and Development Book.

This descriptive publication has 81 pages. It is quite informative, in its
own right. There is a chapter on Engine performance and Specs. Flight
Charistics. The original intent of the design. Plus 9 other chapters.

Any questions further about the BULLET, I will try to answer from the DaD
manual.

I heard fo 2 other V-8s being considered for the BULLET, but nothing
concrete. These were the THUNDER V-8 of 495 cu. in. displacement, and a
CRYSLER Hemi-Head V-8 of around the same Displacement, both were for
aviation use.

One thing that Dr Brokaw was quite concerned about was the BULLET being
overweight. He expressed several concerns about going away from milled
pieces to rolled or extruded parts.

The original 1000 hp was a bit to much without firewall beef-u. However that
was always a future design change.

There was a main spar change that was planned. but I've not heard anything
on it.

There were no kits ever planned for sale, only formers and ribs from the
original prototype forms.

For your questions either here or on my e-mail. I will try my best to
answer them with the data that I have before me.

Sorry it is a bound book.

This book is almost twenty years old.

Tell you something, though a site might be interesting, only if enough
interest is there. I could install it to my web page if and when the clown
that is setting it up ever gets it done.

I've already fired off a two page letter asking for reproduction
authorization and any facts or prices of extra data available. You got the
juices flowing again. This bird when it is at its best makes all others
just an airplane.

Let's hear it for the BROKAW BULLET CLUB

Good deal on the letter. I've got one going out this morning to the
guy that had theirs at Oshkosh. It's mishmash of questions, and I
don't know how long it will be before I ge an answer, but when I do, I
will get a copy to you. Maybe between us we can generate enough
interest in th BB to get plans back onto the market. If Dr. B. would
agree, I would be willing to expend the time and energy required.

Please keep me informed..

Please keep us all informed. I still like to get some more data about
the plane (like weigths and speeds ect.)

Any married man should forget his mistakes - there's no use in two
people remembering the same thing.

From Roy Downing's BROKAW BULLET CLUB Info file.

The speeds were dependant on the tpye and model powerplant used.

For the interest of clarity and space, I will use the two engines that Dr
Brokaw used in his prototype.

With the TCM TSIO-520B installed the weight, horsepower and speeds were
thusly.

Empty weight 1933 lbs
Gross weight 3042 lbs
Useful load 1109 lbs

H.p. 310

Sealevel IAS 200 kts @ Max power
Sealevel IAS 185 kts @ 75% power
12,000 IAS 240 kts @ Max power
12,000 IAS 221 kts @ 75% power

With the Lycoming TIO-541 E installed the weights, horsepower and speeds
are:

Empty weight 2033 lbs
Gross weight 3142 lbs
Useful load 1109 lbs

H.p. 380

Sealevel IAS 226 kts @ Max power
Sealevel IAS 206 kts @ 75% power
12,000 IAS 280 kts @ Max power
12,000 IAS 255 kts @ 75% power
24,000 IAS 303 kts @ 75% power

As you can see the Bullet is no slow poke a little on the heavy side but
then so was the finest AAF WW II Fighter going, Republic's P-47 Thunderbolt.

Keep the questions coming. Some I can answer & there are some I can not.

How much fuel can it hold?
What is the max gross weight (I see it was raised 100 lbs with the
bigger engine)

Roy Downing's answers to article 7 & 8 from the BROKAW BULLET Data Manual

All Air Speeds above 12,000 Ft are TAS.

Since VNE is 250 indicated, just forgot to enter TAS instead of IAS For the
12,000 & Above

Also with the TIO-541 E 55% @ 24,000 checked out @ 255 kts TAS.

Total fuel is 95 gals.

Max Gross weight was held at the LYC TIO-541E figures since Dr Brokaw felt
the BULLET was in all reality unduly overweight, and kept the Gross weight
at 3142 max.
