Maybe you can't be IFR legal in Canada, but there's lots of IFR
homebuilts in the US. My RV-4 was IFR legal, and all those turbocharged
puppies flying above FL180 are almost certainly IFR -- you need special
permission to fly VFR that high.

Totally stock LongEz except for O-320 B3B (160
HP), excellent workmanship, 760 Ch. NavComm/ILS,
GPS/Comm, Terra Enc.Xponder, new NavAid
autopilot, new unused Klauss Savier prop. 868
Lbs dry (which is quite light for a Long-Ez with
a O-320 engine).
I built the aircraft in Canada and first flew it
in July 1985. It originally had a Canadian
registration number of C-GFCC. I later moved
to Florida and got a US N785FC registration
number. The aircraft itself has very low time <
200 hrs and has been in storage for most of it's
life. 4 years ago I installed a used O-320
engine (160 HP). The aircraft is very nice
with very good workmanship. The panel has the 6
basic flight instruments, 5 engine guages, ICS
NAV/COMM with ILS, Terra transponder and King KLX-
100 GPS/COMM. Technically it can be considered
IFR but cannot be certified as such as for any
homebuilt.
As far as performance is concerned Long-Ez's are
very good compared to most performance homebuilts
and completely smoke any production aircraft.
They are particularly good at long range
flights. They are also very economical and this
is a factor with rising gas prices.

A few weeks ago a Long-Ez owned and piloted by a
Swissair pilot broke the clockwise and
counterclockwise around the world speed records.
Because the aircraft has such good economy, range
and speed, this combination makes it ideal to
break such records. Here are some details:

You may read up more on Long Ez aircraft at
www.ez.org.
My aircraft is a stock Long-Ez with some of the
same components from Klauss Savier of Light Speed
Engineering. With my O-320 (160 HP) engine,
Klauss wheel pants and carbon propeller the
aircraft does 200 mph (true airspeed). I
currently have a climb prop and never exceed 180
mph to prevent engine overspeed.
The fuel burn is exactly the same as a standard O-
320 B3B. There are no mods done to the engine.
Approx 8.5 GPH cruise, 12 Takeoff. Fuel capacity
is 52 gallons.
The airplane has been in a hangard away from the
elements. There is no corrosion other than light
rust on the brake disks. I used fresh synthetic
oil, started the engine every 6 months and turned
the prop 2-3 times every time I got in the
hangard.
Please note: The engine does have high time (2400
hours) but runs fine. The airplane has not been
flown in 4 years and need an annual. The has not
ever been any accidents or damage done to it.
I have been getting tremendous response. My price
is a MINIMUM of $25,000. I already have 2
offers, one which is higher than the asking
price. I will collect offers until Nov 30 and
decide then.
You are welcome to come by anytime evenings and
weekends provided you call ahead 1 hour so I can
meet you at the hangard. I'm on the south side
of the SMO field where a taxiway goes to a lower
part of the field. As ground control to take you
to "Experimental Aviation - Renaissance aircraft"
the Berkut people. My hangard is 200 ft east of
theirs. The street address is 3025 1/2 Airport
and the access door faces Airport street.
You can call me anytime at (310) 251-9473

Please note, we haven't ever looked at this airplane and we have no
idea what condition it's in. I am one with John Banner: I see
nothing, I know NO THING!
