We have been having a rash of tire slashings in my neighborhood. At my
apt. complex, we have had tires slashed 4 times in 15 months. Are
there any kind of car security devices that monitor for tire slashing?
Are there tires that are designed to prevent sidewall puncture? Any
other ideas?

Yes, it's called a human being with a gun. In all seriousness, there isn't
really a good way to protect against this without direct observation.

Well, you could adapt the idea I saw in a Popular Science mag of the early
60's suggested by a reader--booby trap the car so that when some asshole
slashes a tire, you trigger a load of buckshot...

Just fill your tires with a highly poisonous gas instead of air. This
way, after your tires are slashed, the poisonous gas will blow out and
your vandal will then breathe the gas and WA LA! no more vandal.

The reply about the remote alarm is probably your best suggestion. I had
one of these alarms once and it did work like it was supposed to. What
you want to do is catch them puncturing one tire, call the police with a
description and hopefully get them rounded up "before" they know they've
been discovered. BTW, a remote alarm works pretty well as a pager for
your friends to use. They just shake your car and you'll come flying out
of wherever you happen to be!

Solution:
Set up a video camera by your window at night or all day. If it is this
frequent you are sure to catch someone. My friend caught someone breaking
into cars using the video camera. It will work, and if not try a shot gun.
