Hi one and all. I just bought the Super Profile book on the 240/260/280 Z
published by Haynes. Its a very good book and very well written with lots
of illustrations and facts. Its the first time I have really seen the
massive bumpers that the 280Z has in the US. What a shame to spoil such a
nice car. Any way I understand now why the 260Z is not regarded very well
in the US. Its power is only slightly better than the 1973 240Z 139bhp
as compared to 129 bhp. This may even be off set by the big increase in
weight.
Overall apart from the Z432 the quickest Z is the earliest US market 240Z
followed by the early UK market (till 1975) 260Z then its the early UK
market 240Z which comes in third. This is in terms of 0-60 mph times
and 0-100 mph times.
However in terms of 1/4 mile times it is the early 260Z (UK) that is the
quickest by a small margin.
Also over 150,000 240Z were made, slighlty more than 80,000 260Z and
over 250,000 280Z's rolled off the production line. The 260/280 Z included
a lot of 2+2's which in the UK and Australian market at least sold more than
the 2 seater.
By my reckoning the 260Z is then the rarest and almost the quickest and the
fastest Z. I am talking about the UK market version. There can't be more
than 5000 left worldwide IMO.
Does any one have any information to confirm that the UK and Australian
market versions are the same.
Also the UK 260Z is about 100 Kg heavier than the 240Z. Given that the same
panels were used and there was no change to the body. What accounts for this
difference in weight. It can't be the polyurethane steering wheel :-)

Please, folks - Nissan Z cars are NOT antiques! Please don't post
this stuff to rec.autos.antique. Read the group's charter.
Thanks.
