Is there a way to rig up a simple 'silencer' to this to quiet things
down?
Fortunatly, the exhaust pipe is a little tube (approx 15mm diameter)
so there is something to attach the 'silencer' too.
Obviously doing this would reduce the power of the engine, but most of
the time, I only use it on 'idle' or at very low revs, so power isn't
a problem.
If a silencer is possible, does anyone have any simple designs on how
I could fabricate one??
I have access to most tools (including a welder) so am able to
fabricate most things.
I bet a standard 3/4" lawn mower muffler would fit right over
that 15 mm pipe.
Maybe.. But where would I get said 'lawn mower muffler'.. WOuld this
be something that I would be able to source from a decent 'Lawn Mower
Supplier'?
I'm not sure how big the mufflers are but it's just crazy enough to be a
possibility.. Any hobby store that carries RC cars would have the muffler.
Good luck,

Hmmm... I can't really help you with where to find a muffler.
Here in the states, in the suburbs, they are everywhere: hardware
stores, grocery stores, convenience stores, lawn supply,
home improvement stores, gas stations, etc.
I don't know if you have large lawns there that would require
a gas lawn mower??? and so mufflers may be hard to find??
My limited references are TV shows like "East Enders" and this
wonderful website: http://www.hgs.org.uk/
Maybe something like a Moped (or small scooter) muffler would work.
They are either 35 or 49 cc and are close to that size pipe. Long
though...
One for a Daimler Puch or a Motobecane is nice and quiet. You have to
listen real close to hear them at idle, they jut putt. You should be
able to find a dead or used one easy in the UK. Folks boost up the
little things and a muffler change goes right along with a 75 cc
cylinder kit....
You could weld the flange to the flange on the pipe on the existing one
and cut the old pipe off. You might have to drill some holes in the new
flange and get longer bolts or studs for the head. You could get lucky
and the muffler flange might just line up or have enough room to drill
it with a big hole for the nut to fit through or cut it so the stock
bolts or studs and nuts will work.
The oval flange of the moped muffler can be cut down square so the
existing flange bolts could work. I have seen it done lots of times to
change muffler types. (used to work in a Bike shop that serviced Mopeds
too)
