I am considering purchasing a Porsche 924. Does anyone know what
to keep an eye out for when checking out the bits that make it go? Are
there any spots on the body/frame that are prticularly prone to rot?

I am a newcomer to the world of Porche, so I really don't know
what to keep a particular eye out for besides the usuals (Check for
blow-by, excessive fluid seepage of any kind, valve rattle, etc.) Any
help and/or pointers will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

All I know about that car is that it uses the same engine as was in the
base model AMC Gremlin and Spirit '77-'79. I wouldn't be surprised if some
of THOSE owners had converted to AMC straight 6 engines, so you might be
able to get parts easily.

Did AMC use a Audi engine? Very interesting. After all, the 924 had a Audi 2,
0 l engine and Audi gearbox.

Yeah, AMC bought the rights and the whole factory in Indiana. Then sold a
certain number back to VW. The AMC was carbureted with a cast crank vs.
forged for the Porsche version.
AMC switched to Pontiac 151 in '80. Finally built their own 150 in
'84--too late for the 2WD cars, though.

It's true. I absolutely guarantee it, and Porsche fans love to find out
that American Motors Corporation was willing to put a VW engine in cars
with their name on them. From the '79 AMC catalog: 121 CID Four
8.1:1 CR 3.41" X 3.52"
