There are quite a few. Look in Hemmings Motor News, you'll find 'em.

Ones I deal with are:

The Roadster Factory

Victoria British Ltd.

Moss Motors

British Parts Direct

Special Interest Car Parts

I own a 1980 TR7 Convertible, and have had a 1976 Coupe. Write me for tips and
warnings of typical problems. (if you've never had one)

There is a british car mailing list you might want to join too. E-mail me for info.

I will close this post with a copy of a vendor file from a mailing list.

Here is a list of British car part suppliers that I know about.

Most of it has been stolen from Zahid, Mark Bradakis, Ron Knipper,
T. J. Higgins, Duane Walzer and others. Comments may not be my own but from
someone else on the net that has dealt with them or heard about someone's
dealings with them. This is in no way a solicitation for business from any one
of these suppliers just a list for your personal use. Please send me any
corrections, updates or new suppliers you may find so this list can be kept
current.

Someone asked for comments about Dave Bean Engineering. I have been
getting my parts from them for 3 years. They are, in my experience, a
good reliable source. The thing I like most is that they are happy to
spend time on the phone answering questions. If I am not sure what parts
I need to complete a job they will go over the drawings in their catalog
with me to help me make decisions. It helps that I have/had a Europa. In
short, I am very happy with them. -mi...@wv.mentorg.com

supply. New, used parts. 1950 -1982 Healey, TR, MG, Jag, etc.
Just to relate my experience with one of the LBC used stuff suppliers, I
bought a bunch of stuff from British Auto Salvage, Macadon, NY - Wire Wheels,
door pads for my TR250 and some switches. The switches worked intermittently,
the door panels had severe water damage, were warped and stained and one had
been painted along the edge. The wire wheels, sold to me as perfectly usable,
were rusted and the splines were worn out. And the stuff was certainly no
bargain even if it had been usable!
On the bright side, the person I talked to (Mark?) was friendly, but told me
I bought used stuff and that's what I got.

British Frame and Engine

A more local supplier of Triumph performance parts. The owner, Ken Galanders
drag races a TR3, has several NHRA records, and one or two trophies.
Ken has a partnership going with Racestorations the British TR racing
people.
He carries those impossible to find racing parts. He has a free parts list
with prices. He carries such things as:
- finned Al oil sumps made from the same mold as was factory option for TR3s
- rebuilt oil pumps
- harmonic dampeners for TR3,4 engine that allows them to rev without
trashing
the crank
- Special cams
- special pistons up to 92 mm for TR2,3
- oversize valves & valveseats
- competition valve springs
- all kinds of impossible to get performance parts for TR2-6
Ken is VERY helpful over the phone. He did his drag racing in Florida in
the sixties. His car is a red TR3 with a TR2 front apron. I do not think
he has raced it in a long time. He brings it to most all the West coast
TR events.

For 20 pounds Sterling they will do a trace on TR 4/5/6/7, but I'd guess
they would do most other makes, eg: MG. They say "quote the year, make, model of car, together with the all-important commission/chassis number. Remittances should be made payable to B.M.I.H.T. You will receive a certificate suitable for framing. Unfortun
ately it is not possible to trace a car on any other basis than the commission (chassis) number". TR2->3As can be traced by one Bill Piggot of the TR Register, only 3 quid! You have to be a member though

Our good friend and buddy, Bob Yarwood, formerly proprietor of British Parts
Direct, has changed the name of his business. (Others have characterized this
as an expansion. - George_N_Hay...@xerox.com) now operates the Vintage
MG Racing Service. I would suspect that, in spite of the name change, the
quality and "service" (used *very* loosely in this context) have seen no more
vast improvements than the last time he changed the name of his business. (And
to cover my ass, I'll say I *might* be wrong). I believe I still have a few of
the testimonials regarding his shoddy workmanship and after-the-sale surliness
that earned him this ignominy. For those who may not have heard of him, don't
be fooled by his prices, almost too low to be believed. They *are* too low to
be believed. Take heed. You can't *see* the problem when you get the part.
The cases I remember off the top of my head are a poorly ground cam, a
pre-cracked crank, poorly machined roller rockers, and a leaky block. Just
looking at any one of these parts would show nothing wrong. The rockers and
block actually got installed in cars before the problems were realized. I
believe Miq Millman was the one to peg the bad cam before he put it in the car,
and upon recommendations from the brit-cars list, whoever bought the crank had
the sense to get it magnafluxed before putting it in an engine. I still have
my rocker shaft with the rockers wedged on it.

I have a friend who makes the MGB battery bins that Moss and TRF sell, and
he's looking for new projects for MGBs, Midgets, TR6s, or Spitfires. Can
anyone identify chronic problems ;-) any of these cars have. Rob will pay 5%
of revenues for any product which results from your identifying a need.
(Recently, someone told him that the console latches on MGBs always break.
Rob made a repair part the fixes this problem and sends a quarterly check to
the problem identifier.) Rob wants you to pretend he is the auto
manufacturer and to send him your car gripes. You can unload on him via me
at my return address (not to the whole list) or directly to him.

Please keep the input constructive ;-) If all goes well, you may see more
products by him through MOSS, TRF, etc. I have no interest in Rob's ventures
other than if he comes out with a part I can use. Rob is a British car nut

Clarke Spares & Restorations
90 W. Swamp Road
Doylestown, PA 18901

Todd Clarke has restored several MGAs and found he needed many small
bits of hardware that no one offered. His small catalog contains a good
selection of original-type fasteners and other hardware packaged as kits, small
clips and brackets, frame and body repair panels, body-to-frame pad kits, etc.
He also offers rebuilding services for windshields, seats, hand brake levers,
etc. Some of his reproduction parts are sold to Moss and others, who mark them
up a little. Because of his familiarity with MGAs, he is also a great source
of restoration information. With his unique selection of parts, reasonable
prices and cheerful assistance, he should be known by all MGA owners and can be
helpful with MGBs, also. - George_N_Hay...@xerox.com

This place is operated by Mark Campbell under at least two names. They handle
a variety of British cars mostly "original" cars as found across Texas. The
stock is constantly changing and he has lots of random spare British parts. A
word of warning, Mark is in business to make money and his opinion of "unique,
one of a kind, excellent condition" along with his sense of worth are usually
much different from mine. Never pay the asking price here. See it in person
before spending major money. - Roger Bolick (r...@hal.com)
This is where I bought my car (77 MGB). The spare parts he has are really not
that good. He acquired those parts when London Bridge changed hands and the new
owner did not want a lot of "junk" hanging around the shop taking up valuable
space. Twice I bought parts from him that were less than what I had bargained
for. I must also agree with Roger on what Mark calls "unique, one of a kind,
excellent condition". I would avoid this place unless it is your last hope and
can have a look at what you are buying, and know in advance what you are
getting into. Also if it makes a difference the other shops in Austin that I
know of will also not do business with him unless it is a last ditch effort to
try and find a needed part. - bru...@amex-trs.com (Bruce Carter)

This company produces the "SAXON" fiberglass car which is "meticulously
patterned after the 1962 Austin-Healey". It looks nice but is not an exact
"replica". They have a VW powered version and a "front engine frame package"
for Chevy/Ford power. It looks nice, and respectable enough. -?

The Saxon uses the Ford V6. It is distinguisable from a real Healey because
it has both a flat windshield and roll-up windows, which no real Healey had.
They also have a Cobra replicars and a Big Healey with a V8 and flares. I
think one of their best is the MGTD. Stay away from the (ugh!) Volkswagen
version. I have driven the Chevette-based (no kidding!) front-engined MGTD
(although this one had a Pinto engine grafted in) and it was really nice. It
handled very well and was fun to drive. I used to sell kit cars. We built
some of our own and brokered some. This was one that was really well made.

Lotus appointed classic dealer
As far as I am concerned Daytune are the Lotus owner's best friend.
So far as parts go, there is a lot in that brochure that is manufactured
by Daytune and supplied to Lotus! Particularly trim pieces, switches, hoods.
They do a serious quantity of business around the world to dealers and
specialists as well as individuals. They do not give discounts, but they don't
load the prices either, you pay the straight list.
Normally no lists or catalogues, occasionally produce a list
of parts recently re-manufactured. They charge straight Lotus
list prices, but those change too often to keep up with any
sort of list. No tuning parts. - Mike Causer

London Stainless

from the TE/AE newsletter:
"An unhappy restoration experience was shared by Jim Armstrong. As
he reports: '$500 down the tubes due to promises unkept, bad quality
and bad information.' Basically he saw an ad for stainless steel
exhaust systems from London Stainless in CLASSIC CARS and ordered same
for his Tiger. His letter to the Editor of CLASSIC CARS explains his
allegations in detail -- incorrect customs info supplied by the
advertiser, very poor fit of the system (costing almost $400 to refit
and HeliArc) -- and his futile attempts to rectify the situation.
Conclusion: let the buyer beware, especially when purchasing and
importing from another country -- it's not like exchanging that
Christmas tie from dear old Auntie."
For those interested in stainless exhaust systems, I purchased a
Falcon system for my Alpine from Vicky Brit and have found it to be
of very high quality. All the pieces fit perfectly, making it very
easy to install. - T.J. Higgins tjhi...@alpine.b17a.ingr.com

well worth going to but get there around sun rise for real bargains. They sell
seconds real cheap, & the good things go as the boxes are brought out. Best
plan is to get everything you might want then ask for a lot price. Some
things get thrown in for free. There is also a flea market going on at the

Letter:
April 14, 1993 TO ALL TRIUMPH CLUB MEMBERS:
I write to you in regards to a Triumph parts vendor who seems to take pride in
the inter-state rip off of customers. In December 1992, I contacted
Mr. Fabrizzi, of Fabrizzi Parts House in Garland Texas, in regards to his ad in
the Hemmings Motor News. This contact was concerning the restoration assured,
by Mr. Fabrizzi, that his process was excellent and satisfaction was guaranteed
100%. When the wheel was returned to me, via UPS, I was not allowed to pay by
check, as had been agreed upon, but by CASH ONLY. At that point, I knew that I
was about to be had. Upon opening the box, I was totally horrified to find my
steering wheel covered with masking tape, putty, primer, and a very small
amount of black paint from a $.98 spray can. The enclosed picture tells the
horrid story. At once, I called Mr. Fabrizzi and he quickly informed me that
the quality of the work was good and had been done by himself and not another
employee. Since I was not satisfied with the work, Mr. Fabrizzi said that he
would send me a refund immediately. Enclosed are the copies of my telephone
bills showing my many attempts at trying to retrieve my $135.00. As of this
date, I still have not received my monies as stated in his ad of 100%
satisfaction guaranteed or your money back. I write to you in hopes of letting
your membership know how Fabrizzi Parts House does business. There should be NO
place in the hobbyist/restoration field for people like this and only Triumph
clubs, such as yours, can make sure they help put them out of business.
I thank you for letting me inform you of this matter and and helping me
inform your membership. Sincerely, Fred Thomas, Stafford VA

Enclosed also were copies of his phone bill showing 15 calls to Garland TX,
and picture of a TR3 wheel with spots of primer and tape all around the spokes.

Put your car in baggies? How about one big baggie?! OMNIBAG is a huge plastic

Write or call for free brochure. OMNIBAG sells for $89.95. Inside use only.
Gee, I wonder if you could evacuate it with a vacuum cleaner? - Phil Ethier

I put my Jag in an 'Omnibag' last winter. The bag is basically a huge garbage
bag. It was a little bit of work getting the car into the bag (required three
people). And the "chip clips" that they supplied with the bag weren't too
good. They wouldn't hold the bag shut so I resorted to clamping the end down
with blocks of wood. I was disappointed enough with the clips that I
complained about them in response to a survey letter I received from the owner
of Pine Ridge Enterprises. He apologized and sent me a new kind of clip that
he will be sending out in future. The new clip looks strong enough to hold the
bag shut. When I took the Jag out of the bag this spring the car was indeed in
as good condition as when I put it away. - Robert Sansom

especially for their racing parts. They have put the TC/Weber heads back

championships with strong Lotus involvement for some years (Classic F3 and

Scarborough Faire
1151 Main St.
Pawtucket, R.I. 02860
401-724-1357

I have been to their sales office, ordered parts from them, yelled at them on
the phone, and returned parts to them for credit. My basic advice would be to
only order parts you are 100% sure you want and know the exact type/part no.
For example, they are very liberal with their part number for BJ8 brakes and
consequently they don't distinguish between Phase I and Phase II BJ8s. They
won't pay shipping when they have made an error and are generally
confrontational on the phone. They will not under circumstances give you a
refund even if they made a shipping error. So ask carefully about whether it
is original or a repro and don't expect to be able to return it. Read their
sales policy carefully - Rod Barman ro...@salmon.ee.ubc.ca

The MGA catalog page listing electrical parts (coils, points, regulators) has
the word LUCAS in large letters but the parts you receive will probably not be
Lucas parts. People restoring cars usually WANT Lucas parts. They once
charged me 5% for paying with my VISA card. VISA has since told me that is in
violation of their contract and S-F could lose their VISA contract for it. S-F
has a NO REFUND policy. Instead, they give an in-house credit (must be applied
to a subsequent order with them). These credits tend to get all messed up and
after several phone calls (during which they agreed with my calculations but
never got it straight on paper). They still owe me but I'll never collect
because I'll never do business with them. I'm no longer angry, just wiser and
anxious to share the facts. Scarborough-Faire once had the British Motor
Industry Heritage Trust approval for part quality and service. This
distinction was rescinded a few years back. S-F had to print new catalogs
without the BMIHT logo. Moss, TRF and Vic-Brit are all approved and display
the logo. I attend quite a few Brit car events and have heard the same
compliants where ever I go.

I had been wondering how Special Interest Car parts can offer such great sale
prices (the buyer for the local brit. car place wonders also.) Now I think I
know. Once you buy something, that's it. I bought two MGB front suspension
kits and one of the king pins is defective. The only way to return something
is with a UPS call tag. So, I call up SIC to do the return. The first day the
sales people can't get through to the customer service person (yes, one
person). So I leave a message. No call back. The next day same thing.
Yesterday, four calls, four messages, same thing. Today, two calls and the
customer service person has left and won't be back at her desk until Monday,
it's only 2:00. How can a company that does the volume of business they do,
only have one person doing customer service? I guess if they never take any
returns, then they can sell stuff cheaper. - Dean_Z...@NIHDCRT.BITNET

Also does repair and restorations as "Classics Too". They have lots of parts

low priced source depending upon how you approach them. The correct way
is to comparison shop somewhere else, get your best prices, THEN go to
Triumph Only. Talk to the owner. Tell him what parts you are after, what
price you have from where and then ask him if he could beat the price.
He almost always comes in with a cheaper price. If you go to Triumphs

Werace Inc

Tube shock replacement kits for Healeys, AND MG, TR, etc.
These guys supply the kits to J C Whitney, and Whitney specs out the shocks
separate, for a real cost cut, as J C Whitney can buy shock (or anything else)
cheaper than almost anybody. Buy replacement shocks direct from Werace when
the Whitney ones wear out. The phone number is right on the unit.

WeRace also sells a Datsun 1200 5 speed conversion for $1200
the last time I inquired, it fits the 1275 Midgets - ge...@probe.att.com

These guys are flaky. As in never getting around to
doing what they say. I have tried to get info, even ordering parts twice, and
nothing ever happened. Even after being promised that it would be in a week.
I finally gave up. They have some good designs - if you can ever find out
about them and manage to obtain one. Nearly impossible to reach via phone.

Whitney:
J C Whitney
Chicago, IL
(312) 431-6102

Also known as Warshawsky/Whitney. An American institution. Sells car parts
cheap for most cars including LBCs. Massive buying power. Brainless order
takers. You can call in the middle of the night for good long-distance rates.
They historically would not tell you brand names, and that is mostly still
true, but some brand names are starting to creep into their catalogs lately. I
use catalogs as a plural, as they print a new one and mail it to you every
time you turn around. All the swaybars used to be ADDCO, but it appears they
have some other ones now. I think you can still call ADDCO for Whitney part
numbers of ADDCO bars. See also ADDCO and Werace. I have bought lots of stuff
from them over many years. The worst I got was gas struts for my Dodge that
worked fine for a couple of months. Most everything else has been OK. Check
their catalogs. They cover the spectrum from tacky crap to truly neat stuff.
Everything from autocross springs for a Midget to leather motorcycle vests to
RV awnings. - Phil Ethier

These guys supply go-fast stuff for Spridgets. They also supply stock parts.
The sway bars they sent me were first-class. They also make a special
gear-drive starter for A-series. Full coil-over conversions or Carrara
tube-shock conversions (see WeRace for cheaper ones). Hard bushing kits for
less than Performance Engineering. They are fast, too. I ordered a swaybar
over the phone on a Monday afternoon and the thing was delivered UPS (regular)
on Thursday (from Ohio to Minnesota). - Phil Ethier

XK's Unlimited is good, but is a bit higher than Welch Jaguar. They are also
committed to "correct" parts. Additionally, you can call them without a part
number. Just be sure that they tell you what is included in the replacement
part. - zro...@trc.amoco.com (Richard O. Lindsay)
