Currently, it is accurate that brake fluids are based on glycols or silicone.
But there was a time when the Dept of Agriculture had to certify that the
potato oil used in brake fluid met specs.

It is my understanding that ATF is gear oil. You didn't say what weight or
type of gear oil you put into the transmission but I would strongly believe
that there is no problem here. You might have actually helped it.
Ford specified 80w-90 gear oil for its 5 speeds when shipped to Germany.
