I asked on old mechanic about stop leak for a leaking power steering
pump. He advised me to put a little brake fluid in the reservoir. He
said he has used it on automatic transmission leaks, engine oil leaks
and power steering leaks as a last resort, about half of a small can.
It softens and expands the rubber seals if that is where the leak is.
Well I tried this in a last ditch effort on an old worn out 73 chev PU
I used to own. It used to leak empty on a 50 mile trip, and after the
brake fluid it stopped leaking totally.
I myself wouldn't use this method unless it was the last way to fix a
leak on a piece of junk.
What do you think? I know it worked for me, has anyone else ever used
brake fluid to stop rubber seal leaks?

Works in brake systems. Seriously, I have used brake fluid to soften
transmission seals in a '57 Chevy that had a severe leak (enough that I
had to carry around a gallon of fluid for a 50-75 mile trip). Worked
like a charm, and I left the fluid in for as long as I owned the car.
Never a problem. Eventually sold the car to a young kid that was
changing to a manual anyway.
