I have a 1996 Chevy S-10 pickup (4cyl. 2.2liter). The airconditioner
has stopped blowing air out of the front vents. All it does is blow
air out of the top defrost vents and the floor vents. It didn't stop
all of a sudden, because sometimes it would eventually start blowing
air out the front vents after the air was on for a few minutes. Now
it does not blow thru the front vents at all.
When I turn the dial on the air switch it does not change at all. It
just stays on defrost and floor vents no matter what setting the
switch is on.
Is it possible that the switch is bad? Someone told me that the hose
might be disconnected. I have the complete dash tooken apart as far
as I can get it, and I don't see any disconnected hoses. I really
cannot see how I can get into the air ducts from behind the dash.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Robert
If it's like most other systems, it's vacuum operated and the default
(no vacuum) mode is defrost or bi-level. So you probably have a vacuum
leak and it may be be under the dash or under the hood.
