This weekend I changed the spark plugs on my 95 isuzu rodeo ( 80 K miles).
On all six plugs, there was a lot of oil on the top of plugs, and inside
the plugs too. When I pulled the plugs out, each one of them was dripping with
engine oil. We are talking actual 10-15 drops of oil on each plug...
So I cleaned the plug-wells, the wires, and put in new plugs. Other than
this problem, it runs good, idles smooth, etc. It is alarming. I bought
this vehicle 4 months back. I called 2 isuzu dealers. One said, I should
change the spark plug wires as they are supposed to have seal on them ( I
dont agree). The other said there are a number of gaskets that could be bad,
so approx cost is about $700-$1200.
Please comment, it is really worrying.
Thanks for your help.

Was the oil on top of the plugs before you pulled them out (did you
get oil all over the plug socket getting them out)? If so, I've got a
problem that sounds similar on my 88 Olds Calais's 2.5l 4 cyl. engine
(GM's Iron Duke engine). The problem in my case is a leaky valve
cover gasket. I've had it replaced twice (once with gasket, once with
RTV + gasket) and it still leaks. It doesn't leak badly since the
last time I had it worked on, but it does leak enough to be slightly
anoying.
The oil travels from this leaky valve cover gasket, down the block and
into a couple of the spark plug holes. The plug wires don't have
seals for the holes in the block so oil and debris naturally
accumulate in there. Whenever I change the plugs, I clean the holes
out the best I can before I remove the old plugs.

You probably have a leaking valve cover gasket that is letting oil drip down onto
the plugs.
There is also a possibility that the oil is coming up the threads from inside the
cylinder. When the oil control rings are worn or stuck, some oil is left on the
cylinder walls during the intake stroke. That oil can be force to migrate along
the spark plug threads during the compression stroke. Over a period of time it can
accumulate and leave a pretty good deposit of oil on the spark plug threads as
well as the outer shell and insulator.
I would check the valve cover gaskets first and also make sure the plugs are tight
and sealing properly.

I talk to Isuzu tech support regularly, and they tell me the dealers
know of this problem, and there are upgraded wires with better boots
available.
Thte problem is so pervasive that regular shops can do the job, so you
don't have to pay dealer prices.
Email me and I'll get the part numbers off of my repair ticket in a
few days.
I've had my 95.5 since 95.8 and it too has 80K on it.
