With $20,000 in the bank allocated for a new truck, I went to Longo
Toyota to buy our new company truck.
I spoke with salesperson "Ray" who told me that Longo would not accept
our company check unless they put a hold on it. What about a
cashier's check? Longo wouldn't accept that either because, he said,
we could put a "stop payment" on a cashier's check!!!
Ray suggested that I withdraw $20,000 in "green money," as he called
it, because Longo would accept cash!
And no matter how we paid for the truck, Longo would still have to run
a credit report on me personally (even though it was a company
purchase).
I called our bank. Our account representative warned me against
withdrawing a large amount of cash because the bank would report that
to the Department of Treasury and I might be suspect as a drug dealer.
She also told me that there was no way I could "stop payment" on a
cashier's check. She suggested that something wasn't quite right at
Longo.
Even after speaking with Ray's supervisor, Bill Blanco, we were unable
to close a deal at Longo.
The next day I went to TOYOTA OF CERRITOS. I spoke with the Fleet
Manager, Detlef Stevenson. He treated us like valued and important
customers. After checking with our bank, he accepted our company
check (a cashier's check was not necessary). In a couple of hours we
had our new truck.
And to top it all off, he gave us a "fleet discount" price that was
$1000 lower than Longo.
Thank you TOYOTA OF CERRITOS!
Hmm, a "reputable California corporation" that posts using the default
settings on their newsreader and gives no other indication of their identity
while slamming a dealer by name. You'd have more credibility if you had a
name!

True, any cash transaction of $10,000 or more will get the feds nose
where it doesnt belong. But if this is actually a true story, why would
you conceal your identity? OK, I can see the spammers, but how about
posting your real name? I figured it was a lie. You must work for Toyota
of Cerritos!

And propping up another dealer.... a dealer which happened to be shut
down for several days last year by regulators as a punitive measure
regarding sales tactics.

I don't think drug dealers keep their money in banks anymore. I think it
has to do more with money laundering and off shore accounts. BTW what's
wrong with waiting a few days for a check to clear?
Particularly since if the dealer took more than $10,000 cash
for a vehicle, they have just done a federal crime. There used
to be a fink fee for this, so you could have possibly gotten
a better deal by making the cash transaction and then reporting
it to the IRS.

Bullshit.
