Hi, has anyone tried to swap the 1.5 original engine in a X1/9 -80
for something more interesting? I惴 thinking of trying to fit a Fiat
twincam 1.8 or 2 litre engine. I悲 appreciate any info on problem areas
or other possible engines. Smog legislation (in Sweden)is not a problem
in this case.
Best regards, Tony Jonsson.

Hi! I just got to say, that the new turbo 2.0 l Engine block equiping the
Lancia's top cars, with 220 hp, even installed in Fiat Coupe, is quite a
blast! For it's class is one of the best performant engines...
But you know that Fiat quality have always been doubted, despite of the
quality improvement of Fiat's new products...

I can't actually give an opinion, but i'm giving a word that this engine is
a blow...

There`s a X1/9 here in town that reputedly has an engine from aN Uno
Turbo. This isnt all that far fetched, they are after all based om the
same engine. Both engine and trans bolted right into one I saw in a mag
(bur that was a 1,1 one, I think..?) Well the one in town sure flies..!!

Good luck, and remember - MORE POWER!!

I've got a few magazine articles at home with a variety of swaps.

Uno Turbo and Lancia/Fiat twin-cams are prevalent.

Drop me your fax/address and I will send to you.

How about a Mazda rotary engine. A hot 13B should make 200 hp.

ugh, forget the Rotary. Fiat Twin cams are the normal swap here in Nz, and
Uno Turbo swaps are also common (basically identical engine). You could also
easily fit a Tipo motor (again basically the same). One X1/9 here actually
has a Croma Turbo 2l engine stuffed in it!! Phil (128 racer)

The UNO 1.3 ie turbo engine will fit; an X/19 with one fitted was featured
in a UK magazine last year. It wasn't a straight swap, and there were a
number of other modifications and relocations needed. Great engine though.
Up to 150 bhp with some fairly small turbo mods. Up to 190 bhp (if you
believe the claims) with a hybrid turbo. In the X/19 the latter would be a
flyer.

Good luck!
