I have a 1985 Jeep with a rebuilt GM 2.8l v6 in it. I want to replace
the stock carb with a Holley, and need some advice:

1. Is the feasible? One guy told me that because the stock carb has
a progressive linkage primary - secondary, a holley which has
two-primaries just "won't work". Is this a crock of shit?

2. Will it fit? I know I think I'll need a Mr. Gasket adapter
plate..any other issues? Air filter bowl fits the same?

3. Will my throttle cable and tranny cable still connect to the carb
like on the stock one? Same connections?

4. Is the throttle lever on the same side of the carb (its on the
passenger side of the car now)?

5. Anything else I should know?

Has anyone here done this swap on this exact engine (GM 2.8l v6)? Any
advice is appreciated!

Please post or e-mail to mst...@cyberplus.ca

Thanks

Because you are so unlucky as to have an automatic you are probably SOL. The
GM 2.8 autos carb. is computer controled (some of the sticks are not). Unless
Holley makes a carb specifically for the 2.8 (I don't know)

It can be done but if the engine is computer controlled or you have
emissions testing in your area, it will not be legal.

Edelbrock makes a manifold for this. It is a two-piece design. There
is one botton half and two interchangeable top parts. One for a 2bbl
stock carburator, and one for a four barrel standard flange carb such
as the Holley.

You would need part number 3785 manifold base and part number 3789 for
the four barrel Holley. There is NO provision for EGR on the 4bbl top
half. The top half that allows you to use the stock carb is part
number 3787. It accepts EGR and is emissions legal.

Edelbrock also recommends their cam kit part number 3790 but notes
that it is NOT emission legal.

They ALSO make emision legal headers, part number 6680 for the 84-86
Cherokee w/the 2.8L V6.

See http://www.edelbrock.com for more info

Summit Racing is a good source for these components.

I don't know the specifics of the jeep, but the comment that a single stage
carbie "won't work" is a bit drastic. You can replace a progressive carb
with a single stage item, but you will find that the characteristics
(particularly mid-range acceleration) are changed, due to fuel amount /
velocity considerations.

Don't Holley make progressive carbs anyway?

Yup. In the late 70's and early 80's, guys road racing these things would adapt
a standard flange 4412 500 cfm Holley model 2300 to the standard manifold. The
stock manifold, however, was known to be pretty bad - the aftermarket manifold
might be a better bet.
