With 10 races left to qualify, 10 drivers have won a race
and are virtually locked into the Chase (15 race winners
are garaunteed spots in the Chase, so to knock one out
there would have to be 6 more winners in the next 10 races,
which does not seem likely to happen).

Winners so far:

Harvick (2)
Edwards (2)
Earnhardt (2)
Busch
Keselowski
Logano (2)
Busch
Gordon
Johnson (3)
Hamlin (*)

Kurt Busch is 26th in points, but he's 150 up on the cutoff,
so there's little or no chance that he won't qualify for the
Chase with his win.

(* Hamlin missed a race, but was granted a medical exemption,
so he's still qualified).

Next six in points:

Kenseth
Newman
Larson
Menard
Bowyer
Biffle

The top three of that set seem likely to make it on points.
Menard, Bowyer, Biffle are a bit far back, and fairly close
to Kahne, Stewart, Dillon, McMurray, and Vickers (who are
seperated by only 5 points).

You would figure Kenseth and Stewart as likely to get a win
sometime in the next 10 races, the others not so much so.
And of course Ambrose will be the favorite at Watkins Glen.

I'm guessing we'll end the year with 13 winners and 3 drivers
getting in the Chase on points.

I would not like to wager a large amount, that Larson will not win...

Well, I wouldn't care to bet against him either (especially
not with a plate race coming up). But realistically his
chance of winning is far smaller than the likes of Kenseth
or Stewart (or Newman or Biffle or Bowyer or Kahne, for
that matter). While Larson has certainly been fast at times,
he's only led 9 laps all year, and I beleive all of those
were during green-flag pit cycles.

Well, Almirola winning today is something nobody saw coming.

Great to see the 43 back in the winner's circle at Daytona!

Too bad it had to rain, though..

You mean because winning a rain-shortened race is viewed as
something of a fluke? Something to that, but then winning any
plate race is pretty much a thing of luck anyway.

Really Almirola's biggest piece of luck was not the rain, but
that he was in front of the 26 car wreck.

And either way I'm glad Amirola got the win. I've always felt
he got kind of a raw deal from Gibbs, and that he had talent
that should have led to a top ride sooner (not that Petty
really counts as a top ride right now, but you get my meaning).

Unquestionably true. As much as I am a Petty fan, I still have to say this
one was pretty much a gift. RPM still has a way to go before they are a
consistent top-10 team and can find Victory Lane against a full field (Ambrose
at the road courses excepted).

It's just not the same.
I know... I know... you have to be "in position" to win..
Honestly, that is an attempt to make you feel good when it happens.
When half the field is wiped out, and it rains,
trust me... there is no real satisfaction.

He will feel 1000% better when he wins one on the track....
