First, I'll admit that I detest Kurt Busch. I think he's been a huge black eye
for racing in general and NASCAR in particular for a long time. I'd love nothing
better than to see his sorry a$$ run out of the sport on a rail.

Patricia Driscoll's story of being attacked in a fit of rage is perfectly
believable given all the other anger management issues Kurt has had. Believable,
but not yet proven to be true.

So, he's just been accused at this point. He's not been charged with
anything yet. So, I'll agree that it would be inappropriate to take any action
against him based solely on her story.

However, if the police investigation results in him being charged with domestic
abuse at the very least he should be suspended from NASCAR pending resolution of
the case. If found guilty, banned for life (and yes I'd say the same thing if
the case involved a driver I like).

I agree, it fits what's known of Busch's personality. On the
other hand, the ex-girlfriend knows that as well as we do, so
if she was going to create a story, that's what she'd say.

Agreed - the truth will probably come out.

I think I'd want it treated like a drug violation - some sort
of program identified for reinstatement (not sure what it
would be, tho). Fail to complete the program, and you're out
for life, just like Jeremy Mayfield. I wouldn't be comfortable
with a system that gave no chance for someone to show they've
changed and atoned.

And I must admit one thing bothers me about her story. If she was afraid of
him to the point of asking a judge for a "stay away" order, it doesn't make
sense to wait all this time to ask for it. That sounds like something you'd
seek in pretty short order.

I still believe her at this point, but her story would be a lot more convincing
if it hadn't come out several weeks after the fact.

Well, I think beating up on your girlfriend is a more serious thing than
taking drugs. It's also a lot tougher to test for to verify that you have
successfully "come clean". That would really require a a significant span
of time with no further incidents.

I'd still prefer to see him banned from NASCAR for life if convicted, but I
could live with "you can be reinstated if you go five years without further
incident".

Well, it looks like we have a little more on it this
morning. Her lawyer released a statement saying that
she didn't immediately make a complaint, because she
was involved in a court case with her ex-husband over
custody of her son.

Apparently in that case she was attempting to portray
Busch as a step-father to her son, in order to gain
custody.

Obviously portraying Busch as an abuser in one court
while portraying him as a kind and loving step-father
in another wouldn't fly...
