Somehow I don't think whoever came up with the All Star format figured on the
early segment winners dropping way back plate track style to stay out of trouble
until it was time to go.

No doubt it was the winning strategy, but it took away from the race. At least
on a plate track those who drop back until go time have to work their way thru
the field instead of getting a pass to the front.

I'm not sure I like the mandatory pit stop rules either. A simple stop and go
is not a pit stop. I'd like to see them have to change at least two tires.

Thoughts?

I only saw little bits of the race (because it was my
ladyfriend's birthday). I couldn't figure out what the
h*ll was going on, and I guess the announcers figured
that since they'd explained the rules at the start, they
were free to make cryptic references to them in the
later part of the race.

Upshot is, it was a waste of my time trying to watch
any of it.

A long segment, a short segment, a pitstop in between;
that's all they need. All this other baloney just takes
away any interest that the race had.

At least I know next Sunday we'll have a real race. The
Indy 500 can't get here soon enough.

For those that do not follow the old group... this is a cut and paste..

I didn't like the race either.

I uderstand that specialty races, have to come up with
different angles. That's why there are no points involved.
I have no problem with that.
I'm quite confident they will not do this again.
At least I hope not.
The original concept wasn't all that bad...

On specialty races, one I used to like (but was never in one)
was the "Whip".
After the heat races,
The cars lined up single file... went three laps,
and then the last car each lap got the black flag,
and had to pull into the infield, until there was one
guy left.. the winner.
A variation of this could be every two or three laps, for the cuppers.
Just to make the event last some time.

The best "specialty" race I was ever in was scored like a golf
match, and I would LOVE to see this for the Cup "All-Stars"

TIme trials... fastest time gets 1 point, second get 2 points,
third 3, and down the line..
Then the fastest guy starts last in a 25 lapper.
The winner gets 1 point, runner-up gets 2, third 3 etc.
The winner starts last in the next 25 lapper.
Winner gets 1, second gets 2, etc.
Driver with the LOWEST score is the winner..
Record was 5 points....
Great racing, no time to fool around!!
