SOMETHING GOOD FOR THE YOUTH OF THE NATION
FORT WASHINGTON, PA DECEMBER 6, 1999 . . . The Motorsports Explorers Post
1320 is the only scouting group of it's kind, combining motorsports with
scouting and endorsed by the National Hot Rod Association. And this year
the Explorers will be part of the massive Pennzoil display area at the
Pennzoil Motorsports Auto Racing Trade Show set for the Fort Washington,
PA Expo Center, January 14-16, 2000.
The Hatboro, PA based youth group, is located at the Lehman United
Methodist Church and is sponsored by On- The-Line Enterprises, a financial
planning and marketing firm in Horsham, PA. The firm is run by a former
race car driver and engine builder by the name of Joe McNally. He is
probably the one most responsible for the success of the Explorer group.
Even John's son Shawn is an important part of the organization. And not to
be forgotten is mom and wife, Ginny.
At a time when young people are looking for things to do, the
Motorsports Explorers helps teens, some of whom may have had family or
drug problems, and keeps them out of trouble by teaching them about
motorsports and possibly starting a career path. The youngsters do not
only learn about auto racing and how an engine works, they also learn
marketing, sales and communication skills. The Motorsports Explorers is
also an official group for the "Race Against Drugs" program in
Pennsylvania.
The organization is also a proud owner of their own Top Alcohol Funny
Car which was donated by driver Russell Prince. The car is used to promote
their sponsors and to participate in a number of shows including the
Pennzoil Motorsports show. They will be using their fourth appearance in
the "mid-winter motorsports happening," which attracts more than 40,000
people for the three day show, to raise funds for a new headquarters. At
present they have a number of vehicles but little or no storage space. The
membership is growing so the Motorsports Explorers need a bigger "home"
than what the Lehman church is able to provide.
The Motorsports Explorers will be raising funds by raffling off a
Pennzoil gas powered race car, selling Pennzoil hats and raffling off a
helmet signed by all drivers participating in the Pennzoil display area.
The Explorers, with several members having reached the impressive Eagle
scout status, will be an important part of the Pennzoil Motorsports Auto
Racing Trade Show. "Pennzoil has been a very important part of our
organization. They have been a big support," said McNally.
A number of well known names in the sport will be participating in
the show's popular autograph sessions (no additional charge for autographs
once an admission ticket has been purchased). Included in the autograph
sessions will be four time Indy 500 winner A.J. Foyt along with Bobby
Labonte, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Scott Goodyear, Steve Park, Jeremy Mayfield
and others to be announced.
The show, covering more than 275,000 square feet of the huge Fort
Washington Expo Center, includes just about everything imaginable in
motorsports. More than 150 race vehicles will be on display with more than
500 exhibit booths loaded with sportswear, collectibles, auto racing hard
parts and much more.
As usual one of the highlights of the show will be the U.S. Tobacco
Ms Motorsports contest. And there will be a pageant for the Li'l Miss
Motorsports contestants and Big Wheel racing for all youngsters.
The three day show will include a variety of seminars on subjects of
interest to fans and motorsports participants. And there will be on-going
demonstrations in the MotorMax Extreme Motorsports Garage area.
