Joliet, Illinois (September 8, 2002) - Gil de Ferran was injured in a single
car accident at Chicagoland Speedway when his car made hard contact with the
turn two wall. Indy Racing League's Director of Medical Services Dr. Henry
Bock diagnosed De Ferran with a concussion. He was awake and alert when
transported by air to St. James Hospital Olympia Fields, Illinois.

De Ferran closed on the lapped car of Tony Renna while running sixth. Renna
suddenly lost oil pressure and slowed. De Ferran veered his Marlboro Team
Penske car to the right, making hard contact with the turn two wall. The
car, still under full power, hugged the wall down the back straightaway.
Safety crews had to shut the engine off before attending to the driver.
