Does anyone have information on this driver, who is/was a dentist from
the Big Island and won one or two races during the Can-Am's final,
forgotten seasons? I recall reading somewhere he had run some USAC
Indycar road course races in 1968, driving for Dickie Smothers, and was
seriously burned in one race.
Thanks in advance,
Earl
Lou Sell was one of the early drivers in the forunner of F5000. The class
was called FA and what is now FAtl was FB. I don't recall if he won the
championship, but that could well be.

Sell had his trailer broken into before the Summit
Point race. Summit Point owner Bill Scott offered
Sell the use of the shop at the track so he could
run that weekend.
I was timing a practice session in the carousel
when the gentleman next to me informs me that he
had run a time 2 seconds faster than anything I
had recorded. It was Lou Sell. Bill Scott had
sent him over to sit with our group.
I believe Lou Sell said he was living in Florida
at the time.
btw, I have an English/French Automotive dictionary
in my library. It was written by a Lou Sell.
The dictionary is at least 60 years old. I wonder
if that was his father.
Cheers,
Dave

Paul Tracy was 16 years old when he won that race. This was the minimum
age to be able to race in Canada. I distinctly remember reading about
his victory, and saying to myself, well there's a star of the future.
Speaking of that year, there was a Can-Am race at Lime Rock that was
held in torrential rain -- they even ended it early. Does anybody
remember who won that race? For many folks in the Northeast, it was
an immensely popular victory.
(Hint -- look at Richard Welty's .sig.)

Wasn't that our boy Bruce MacInnes?? A **great** rain driver. I'd like to
see him and Zippy going at it in the rain.

Yep, it sure was! And, if you mean Michael Zimicki as Zippy, then yes,
watching those two race agasint each other in the rain would be amazing.
And, it would sure beat the hell out of any crap the IRL could show us.
