Odd how the other driver is doing so well in it !

Doesn't look good for McLaren in 2013. One driver who needs a perfect
car, but can't set it up, the other driver who's turned into a crasher.

Ah come, he didn't say that. He "doesn't get it" - and I don't either,
just a few races ago McLaren looked like they had everything under
control.

A crasher?! What are you talking about? Lewis hasn't crashed into
anyone this y- uh... Oh, right. Man, still can't get used to it.

ADP.

Button said "the MP4-27 is the worse car McLaren has given him since he
joined the team".

No. Pitpass said that Button said that. No! Wait! It was the Guardian.
Pitpass are rehashing a Guardian story. Neither story has Button
actually saying those words.

And if the quotes go where you have them wouldn't Button say "the
MP4-27 is the worst car McLaren has given me since I joined the team"?

According to the Guardian, what Button said was:
"This car hasn't suited me as well as McLaren's last two. Since I've
been here this has been the worst year. It's been tricky, even on good
weekends. We've had a problem pretty much every weekend, lately. We
need to stop it. I don't get it."

Which is partly about the car but stops short of condemning it
outright . Part of that seems to be a complaint about McLaren's
tendency to drop the ball this season.

He also says: "The car is quite unusual in the way that it works. It
works really well for Lewis, and works really well for me at times.
But the consistency isn't there."

Which again is not quite the same as any of the headlines applied to
this story.

Sloppy sub-editing by the Guardian.

I think that the relevant word in that quote is "me".

<McLaren>

Well Jens, it's like this; You know Lewis hasn't been happy this year (and
despite our famous 'no number one driver' stand you know he's number one).
So, to try to assuage him we've built the car to suit him rather than you.
It's too late to change things for this season (and we think that he's still
our best chance of scoring second in the WCC anyway).

However next year you'll be number one (at least until we see how the first
four or five races go). Consequently you'll find that you have a much more
suitable car for your driving style - sorry about that. Enjoy your money for
now.

The car works really well for Lewis.
The car works well for Jensen AT TIMES.

ergo: The consistency isn't WHERE, Jensen?

To be fair, it hasn't been working that well for Lewis - that's why he's
leaving.

It hasn't been stunningly wonderful for Lewis either.

Actually, that's probably not far off the truth. It *should* be much
easier if they just concentrate on Jenson. If Mclaren can't built a car
to suit Jenson next year, we'll know that Lewis has definitely made the
right decision.

No it's not. I think you'd find that if he hadn't been let down in a
number of other ways he'd be fighting for the championship and would be
staying put.

Well, it's difficult to categorise how much of McLaren's inconsistency
is inconsistency. If it had been a fundamentally good car and he was
just "let down in other ways" he'd be staying put.
