Can't help but wonder, are some drivers smokers? If so, who?

Now, I don't think there is a smoker in the F1 Drivers. In the past,
Alessandro was smoking Marlboro with Camel as Sponsor !

Jan Magnussen is IMHO the only current driver who smokes.

Former F1 drivers:

- Elio de Angelis
- Keke Rosberg (cigars)
- Patrick Depaillier
- Joachim Winkelhock (aka "Smoking Joe")

CU, Sascha :o)

Mika Salo used to smoke a couple of years ago; don´t know if he still does.
It used to be different; I just watched 1985 season video and Keke Rosberg
had a smoke on the podium! (Brands Hatch)

And now, the only one that was smoking but apparently quit was
Magnussen. Daddy Stewart didn't want him to!

Back in the late 70's Keke Rosburg chain-smoked his way around the
Tasman Series in NZ and he went on to be WC - he's still chain smoking
according to rumour.

Whether he is an F1 driver is another question.

What Magnussen...and any other driver for that matter.....do in the
privacy of their own homes may be completely different to their public
image. I did not intend to imply that they wander around the pit area
with a fag hanging from their mouth....Flavio is the only one who does
that!

Take it from me....Magnussen STILL SMOKES!

Damon Hill tried smoking a big cigar after he won the WC last year.
Apparantly he coughed, spluttered and gave up after a few puffs.

I saw a photo of Niki Lauda smoking (a cigarette) in 1994 or
thereabouts. I am sure he did not smoke when he was driving though.

Too right - he'd never get the whole cigarette inside his helmet, the
visor gets in the way. Or perhaps a small hookah, tucked into the
cockpit somewhere, with a smoke tube (just like a drink bottle)? ;-)

In 1985 I stood next to Keke smoking a Marlboro cigarette. Despite 'No Smoking' signs he assured me it was OK as long as I was next to him. I tried to think of something to say but to be truthful I was a bit starstruck. That week is one of my fondest memories. I ate dinner with Patrick Tambay and Stefan Johanson at a BBQ. Stefan was a great raconteur, he speaks many languages and has many accents in English including a rather good Aussie accent.

Not sure about the cigar, could have been one of the pre-war Mercedes
drivers - von Brauchitsch possibly. He was an aristocrat and treated is
team mate Lang, who was of humble origins rather scornfully.

Of course up until the 1960s almost everyone smoked and racing drivers were
no exception. Stirling Moss certainly smoked cigarettes at one time and
both Hawthorn and Collins smoked pipes.

Safety standards were a lot less rigourous then, as witnessed by this
picture of Alfonso de Portago having his fuel level checked:

Jimmy Bryan, who had a win and 18 WCD points in 9 appearances at
Indianapolis in the 1950s (as well as winning the first Race of Two
Worlds at Monza) had driving suits with a special pocket to hold his
signature cigars. Here's a (mislabeled) photo:

Other pollsters complain about declining response rates,
but our poll showed that 96% of respondents would be
'somewhat likely' or 'very likely' to agree to answer
a series of questions for a survey. - Randall Munroe

Kimi smokes occasionally, I've seen suggestions that Vettel & Lewis do
too. I think Lewis put a picture/video of him with a cigar on TikTok
or Instagram a couple of years ago.

Searching for 'racing drivers who smoke' finds lots of photos and
discussions.

There was a time when it was considered a sophisticated and slightly
rebellious thing to do, rather than a fuckwit thing to do.

I don’t think it was regarded as particularly sophisticated - although your
social status was, to some extent, marked by the brand you smoked - it was
just something that almost everybody did (I’m talking the 1950s and early
60s).

The wonderful James Hunt was rebellious smoking joints in front of the cameras.
