If I remember correctly,
it is the ouverture of George Bizet's famous opera "Carmen".

Greetings,

Stefan.

Hi,
I think it's "Ode to Joy" by Beethoven(?).

Should be the national anthem of the winning drivers country.

For European GP should have been "O, Canada".

Wonder when/if we'll hear "The Star Spangled Banner" at an F1 race?

I'm not sure of the name ...
however the music that is heard is actually the winning driver's
national Anthem followed by the winning Constructer's national
anthem.

"March of the Toreadors" from Bizet's Carmen.

Well, I think it was. It was 1:30 AM 8-)

These days it's usually the British national anthem...

Good grief... it's Beethoven's "Ode to Joy", which is a part of
his symphony. Fifth, I think.

This piece is the Finale to the Ninth Symphony, the lyrics of which are a
poem titled _Ode_to_Joy_; Beethoven wrote the music, he did not write the
poem.

Ode to Joy is Symphony 9 Movement 4, but I don't think I have heard
it played at the podium. Then again I don't get to see much of the
podium celebrations on TSN or CBC.

Well Kimmo, that was definitely the celebration music LAST year. BTW,
the "Ode to Joy" is the chorus and therefore part of the final movement
of Beethoven's nineth symphony. Actually, some other guys and me posted
this already in 1995. Perhaps you read it then?

Well Kimmo, that was definitely the celebration music LAST year. BTW,

the "Ode to Joy" is the text of the chorus of the final movement of
Beethoven's nineth symphony.

Don't they play the winning driver's national anthem, followed by the
team's national anthem? I suppose when Hill wins, what, do they play God
Save the Queen twice?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha :)

Sorry........ if Indycar is any indication it will be a while yet, I
personally like Andretti, but he does seem to be too Kamikaze, shown
by his resent probation period being set. I would like to see Greg
Moore being the next driver to come over, I think he is another
Canadian. Even in Indycar most of the front runners seem to be
non-American.

Perhaps American drivers need to participate in the European events
that form the breeding grounds of F1, such as Karting etc. I would
love to see the Americans compete in the European Karting events,
perhaps they would drop the 4 stoke racing and get more 2 stroke seat
of their pants racing.

Kind Regards - Brian

This is wot it oughta be:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NjssV8UuVA

When I do local announcing I play the first 90 secs of this on at the start, though I doctored my CD to shorten the gaps in the kettle-drum lead-in.
The crowd loves it.
