Is there a chart comparing driver height and body weight somewhere?
I'd be interested to see who's the lightest, and who's the heaviest.

I remember in Prost's day, he clocked in the lightest (IIRC) at around
62kg (?) whereas Berger was close to 80kg. Is there anyone as
small/light as Prost these days?

Years ago I worked on the furniture design for the Renault HQ in Swindon
for Norman Foster, and the HQ's showroom area featured one of the RS21
yellow teapot turbos - Prost's old car. I tried to get into it and
couldn't wedge myself all the way down into the monocoque (aluminium
honeycomb IIRC). Alain must have had the narrowest hips possible. I'm
not so huge (1m82, 76kg) but there was NO WAY I was getting all the way
in there!

But even wedged halfway into it was mighty impressive : my feet were
right at the front of the car, ahead of the front suspension, and it
felt like there was about 50 metres of yellow bodywork behind me which
completely obscured the postage stamp sized mirrors. My mates pushed me
around the showroom a bit, while I went vroom vroom. It was cool... :)
Thing had a turning circle of a truck, I remember, and the turbo
engine's innards had been sealed. I remember drooling over the quality
of the TIG welding on the exhausts - fantastically slim and precise,
even in those days.

Sorry, got a bit carried away there in nostalgia land! :)

Before last season I found info on heights & weights at AtlasF1 - haven't
been looking since then. These were the 2001 figures:

No data for Alonso, Verstappen, Räikkönen or Heidfeld.

Original data was in kilograms & metres, approximate imperial conversions
are mine.

The drivers' personal websites usually have this data.

I see that you have a particularly odd opinion! Probably explains why
you top post as well.

FYI McNish weighs 58kg. Does that make him the heaviest or lightest
driver in F1 right now? Fisichella weights 70kg. Obviously a lot
lighter than McNish's 58kgs...not.

McNish is in fact the lightest of the current crop of F1 drivers.

I think Ralf's 79kg makes him the heaviest currently driving in F1.

Jenson and DC are 1.82m tall, but Webber's 1.84m makes him the
tallest.

Sato's 1.63m makes him the shortest.

Damon used to tower of JV in '96. Schumacher's always been known for being
slight of height (Michael). And I'm not surprised in the least to see him to
be one of the lightest going around. (note i said ONE OF)

Fisi is better than Jarno.

What is with Trulli? Looks like he is eating lots of pizzas. Pretty
amazing that Schui is putting it away. I don't like him but I do
respect him for working so hard on his fitness.

I wonder what the ideal height is? It seems like the average sized
guys do the best. The tall guys have to fight the weight all the
time. Damon Hill was close to 6'1" and had to starve himself. DC is
about the same height.

The smaller guys may be too weak to wrestle an F1 car. Small guys
include Massa, Sato, Nick, McNish and Jacks. Maybe this is a weak
theory because Jacks did well when he was in a good car.

The cars are really tiny in real life. You have to be pretty small to
fit in them.

I feel really bad for that promising young Brit who was too tall. I
think EJ said he could not hire him because he was too tall. I think
this youngster was 6'2" or taller and he could be still growing.
Anyone know who I am talking about? Not Davidson. He is supposedly
very quick.

I think Wurz suffered due to his tall height. 6'2" Eddie Cheever said
it was almost imposible to drive the cars when you are that tall.

Fraking Flavio is the guy that negotiated the ever accelerating year
on year paydeal Fissi had. The one that went up in millions of
dollars per year irrespective of performance. This contract
eventually priced him out of the Renault team IMHO.

Strangely, they don't give the same info about DC or Wurz. I guess Wurz

Well Fisi needs a few bucks after Flav gets his cut. Also those

I met Ronnie several times, he was not extraordinary tall, about 1.80m
I would think, in other words fairly normal for a Northern European
male,
height and weightwise. Most F1 drivers are really tiny, and have been
for ages. Many moons ago my then sister-in-law was the subject of a
chatting-up attempt by Arturo Merzario. Now this lady is about 168 cm
tall, but she still towered over Art :-) Maybe he had other attributes,

Of course Flav would have been on a nice earner. Must be difficult to
know when you are ahead in that game - when he was both drivers
manager and team manager. Robbing Paul to pay Peter (and of course
getting a healthy cut himself).

Not sure of their tax residency status. Jenson I would think does not
spend enough time in the UK to pay UK taxes. Probably has Monaco as
his principal residence. But I am sure some of the other posters
would know more about this.

Ah. I remember Autoweek reporting on Ronnie's extraordinary height, and the
need for Lotus to re-engineer. Made him an instant hero for me, despite
pulling for Mario to win WDC. I guess I shouldn't believe everything I
read. I was fortunate enough to walk in the pits and garage area that year.
I do remember all the drivers were little guys, but as I've proven before by

Hehe....remember the Autosport caption competition that had Mario
Andetti
peering deep into an F1 cockpit, hos head an arms invisible in the depth
of the monocoque, and the winning caption read "Need a hand with the

He really was diminutive, but seemed always to be smiling. I saw him a

Flavio needs the extra cash to pay for his Cessna X. This is the
private jet that will almost do Mach 1. The German software hacker/con
artists Kim Schmitz had a picture of Flav's Cessna X at Monaco airport
on his web site.

Yeah - I was worried Flav would put the squeeze to push Jenson out of
Renault. Alonso is also a Flav managed driver and he is the Renault
test driver. Looks like Jenson is pushing hard and doing well. If
Flav pushed Jenson out, at least 3 or 4 other teams would snap him up.
Jag or BAR would take him in a second.

I think Alonso is a very good driver and would love to see him on a
team with Kimi. People raved about Kimi last year but Alonso was very
impressive. Unfortunately, it is hard to tell how good he is in a
Minardi.
