Martin Brlundle....
here is why (from my point of view) :
1) he knows his stuff...doesn't talk for the whole race..you actually can
enjoy
some racing without some comments...
2) he has a great sense of humor...
my wish (I know it won't work) is:
comentators: M. Brundle & J. Palmer

The best of all time is..........drum role
please......................................................................
Murray Walker and James Hunt. Ying and Yang. Sweet and Sour. Balanced each
others weaknesses perfectly. Murray called the races with enthusiasim, and
James called things the way they were. When Murray would go to far, James
would pull him back. When James would go to far, Murray wouls steer him in
the right direction. I MISS JAMES HUNT. Better stop now, I'm getting all
misty. <snif> Sorry.

I agree with Thierry.... only Allard is with double l....
We don't have many other Dutch commentators anyway, or you have to count
Bert Devies... but he is SO BAD..... you don't eaven wanna know...

Allard Kalff was ok, I think he's racing a Mitsubishi in the Dutch TCC.
However, for the best F1 commentary, nothing beats Clive James on the
official F1 tapes (1985?)

You mean Allard Kalff - yes,he was very good, very enthusiastic and of
course, having
a lot of personal racing experience, very knowlegeable. And his English
was immaculate,
even though one correspondent in Autosport thought he was a Seff
Effriken !

For laughs ; Murray Walker
For Info ; John Watson & Ben Edwards

I guess you have only seen/heard John Watson so your comparisons are
very limited ? :)
BBC1 had THE best F1 coverage until last season.
No GP is the same without hearing Murray Walker commentate.
James Hunt was by far the best straightman to Murray's accidental
comedy. Brundle is a close second.
Personally I would like to strangle Watson, Bell, Varsha...

Bruce,
I was always under the impression you liked Murray???
After the documentary on him on TV last night it is clear he makes his
errors from excitement. When calm he is never wrong, or at least I have
never seen him make a mistake.
Murray has a bit of time yet - but he knows it's not all that long.
Yes - It was late when was writing :-)

I dunno about Varsha and Bell, but at least Watson knows what it's like
to race and win a GP. All the cpommentaries I heard from him were
excellent...a highly knowledgable person.
I think Americans are having a hard time understanding the Northern Irish
accent he has!!!!
Mark it'd be nice if you cut the MIME and HTML - saves me having to wade

stangle watson and bell the team from hell...varsha would be ok without
numb nuts bell
john watson is the most hideous non stop stooopid ridiculous

us vomit and barf. Bell is a close second
I agree, and really miss the deeper coverage of Eurosport, for all
I miss Jackie Stewart from my youth on ESPN (when that's all there
was!), can't remember if he was really that great at commentating, I was
pretty new to it all then.
BTW, does anybody remember way back when during an ESPN broadcast
before the race they introduced a bunch of famous international F1
broadcasters as "the Jackie Stewart of .....?"

I agree. I usually like Varsha (he's good with facts, not so much a
color commentator). When he teamed up with Eddie Cheever I think this
was the best combination.

I still can't understand why people complain about Watson@ESPN
so much. Watson and Edwards at Eurosport were fantastic? Is there
anybody who remembers the Eurosport coverage and has heard
Watson now who can confirm that he has become much worse?
For the only GP I watched in the US last year (Canada) Watson
wasn't there.

I could'nt believe my eyes, he looked soooooo different than I
imagined ;-)))))))

Watson just won't shut up!!! And most of what he talks about has nothing to
do with the race at hand. One race last year, he called Sterling Moss (in the
middle of the race -- prearranged I believe). They then proceeded to talk
about what the Mosses were going to have for dinner because Mrs. Moss is such
a wonderfull cook. This went on for about 20 minutes! (Of course, maybe ESPN
thought the race would be so boring, anything might help us all get through
it. :-)

I have to say I kind of liked Watson (is he back?) and when compared to the
ITV commentary last season which was more professional I still think Watson
was/is more entertaining.
> BBC1 had THE best F1 coverage until last season.
That I have never seen so I can't comment on BBC.
However I have to say, not only as a finn but of all the F1 coverages I've
seen the absolutely most hilarious and entertaining commentator is Matti
Kyllonen of the finnish MTV3. Not only does he talk all the time, off-topic,
he gets over excited and his stupidity is pure genius.
Some of the best historical sessions include commentary where former WC Keke
Rosberberg keeps correcting him - there is even a lot of collections of his
commentry on the net, I don't know if anybody has translated them though.
Watson is nowhere even near to his level of babbling - and worst of all he
knows a little bit about racing...
Well I've heard:
Walker & Hunt
Walker & Brundle
Watson & Kalff
Watson & Edwards
Watson & Bell
And I rate them in the order I've placed them. I heard the ESPN2
coverage last season and I don't think Watson is worse than he used to
be, if anything he stays more on topic. I think it might be his accent
- which let's face it - isn't most people's idea of easy listening.
Bell I really don't like, however.
