Was just reading the above article and they said "Ralf Schumacher just did
not look good, troubled it seemed by unsavory and unsettling allegations in
a German magazine. He was off the pace in qualifying."
Can anyone shed some light on what story is about?
Not interested in hearing that he's crap etc, just want to know what was
written, with a link to an English version would be nice too.
Thanks

Dunno, but another story has it that his services won´t
be needed at Williams after his current contract expires,
and in 2004 he will be driving for a team based in Cologne...
B
Ah, well that might explain why he had a bad race.

I expect Ralf will be dropped for 2004 at Williams. Any word on
whether BMW will pull out in 2004? I have a feeling they are not
happy with Williams.

I believe they悲 rather get a greater say and an earlier
input. It would be a big leap indeed to take the Toyota
route (even though BMW would have a certain head start).
Gerhard Berger implied in an interview that he悲 been much
more keen on staying on, if BMW had chosen to build the
entire car themselves.

Thanks, at least *one* person enjoyed it ...
Make that *two*, I thought it was great.

What do you call a bad race exactly? COmming from 17th on the grid and
getting 4th place is a good drive in my opinion!
What is it with people having a go at Ralf all the time? I do not
think he is a great driver but for Gods sake give credit where credit
is due!

So you do not think comming from 17th to finish 4th is a good drive?
If it was Button, JV, Montoya, Barrichello and so on everyone would
say how great it was but put it on a Schumacher and it gets played
down.
No. Not in that car. Qualifying a 2003 Williams in 17th was f*cking
useless. Driving it to 4th was no great deal either.
Friday Q: Montoya 3rd, Ralf 13th.
Sat Q: Montoya 8th, Ralf 17th. (just ahead of 2 Minardis and a rookie
in a Jordan!)
After the race he did admit to passing a Minardi and a Jordan on the
track. The (un)official overtaking statistics indicate he only passed
one of those on the track. However let's look at those drivers in
front of him on the startline:
Of those who qualified in front of him:
Fernando Alonso - started in front of Ralf, finished in front of
Ralf.
Jarno Trulli Renault - thanks to that bonehead move of Schumacher
senior, Ralf was able to pass this guy via the pits. Without that
crap mistake by MS it is highly unlikely that Ralf would have finished
in front of Trulli.
Michael Schumacher - would have finished in front of Ralf had it
not been for:
a) bonehead move of the year so far and
b) drive through penalty
David Coulthard - retired, suffered electronic failure from 2nd
place and had to stop. Without this he would likely have won the race.
Rubens Barrichello - started ahead of Ralf and finished ahead of
Ralf.
Nick Heidfeld - Ralf managed to cunningly pass him via the pits!
Kimi-Matias Räikkönen - started ahead of Ralf and finshed 1.5
minutes ahead of Ralf!
Juan Pablo Montoya - thanks to both Ralf's brother and Pizzonia,
JPM lost 3 laps. Ralf just managed to beat him as a result.
Jenson Button - another stunning pass in the pits!
Olivier Panis - retired.
Cristiano da Matta - another stunning pass in the pits!
Jacques Villeneuve - DNS.
Heinz-Harald Frentzen - another stunning pass in the pits!
Giancarlo Fisichella - retired
Antonio Pizzonia - retired
Mark Webber - retired.
So analysis shows:
Ralf started 17th, finished 4th. Made up 13 places in doing so.
6 of those 13 places either retired or did not start. Of the
remaining 7, 3 had their race ruined by Ralf's brother (including said
brother). Therefore Ralf managed a stunning march from 17th to 4th by
passing:
2 Saubers, a BAR and a Toyota - ALL via pit stops.
My God, what was I thinking. You must be right. Ralf drove the race
of his life last Sunday!!!
(p.s. that was sarcasm for those too dim to see it - are you out there

"put it on a Schumacher" ? Ralf and Michael's abilities are not
exactly comparable are they?

<Fisher>
But he beat JPM once again, by 3 laps, proving how slow and clumsy he
is! It's only a matter of time before Frank sends him packing back to
CART with his tail between his legs as the failure he is!

There are 10 types of people in the world.
Those that understand binary and those that don't.

I have no problem with accepting that passes *can* be made by pit
strategy.
However, qualifying with full fuel load vs. qualifying with 9/10ths
fuel load is neither here nor there in the eventual results. All you
need to ensure is that there are a few laps between your pit stop and
those of your competitors. FYI Ralf had the same number of stops as
the majority of his competitinon that race. Had he really qualified
on full tanks he could have done a one stop strategy - he didn't.
What I do have a problem with is his inability to pass on the track
and *having* to rely purely on a pit strategy to get him ahead of
other drivers in slower machinery.
Still not all see that as a problem and fancy^H^H^H^H rate Ralf
anyway.

What I find hard to forgive is his attitude at Goodwood;

'Tis an occasional failing of mine David. Sometimes
people take me seriously even when I'm winding them up
face to face... Ah well..
Jaz always knows though, which leads to some wonderful
scraps where onlookers think we are serious !
