1. Lewis Hamilton
2. Jenson Button
3. Davis Whatshisscotname
4.. Everyone else as they qualify

In addition to the above, Alonso will start 10 places back for remarks
detrimental to the Hamilton. McLaren will not score any constructors
points because of not granting number one status to Lewis.

Oh, I don't know, Paul. It was mildly amusing, at best. At worst it
was a gentle poke at the British drivers, although for the life of me,
I can't imagine why.

Fact is, I am quite happy to discuss F1 with people who support other
drivers and other teams. You and I do not always agree. Mark Jones and I
almost never agree. Brendan stayed out of my killfile for a long time,
and may yet come back out.

But I see no point in wasting my time dealing with idiots whose only
contributions are fawning rubbish about one driver or team, spewing bile
about another, or nationalistic bigotry (or unwarranted accusations of
same against rational posters who happen to disagree with them).
Likewise, while people are perfectly entitled to their own opinions,
they are not entitled to their own facts. That is why the spying debate
has seen a few more added to the bozo bin after staying out for a long
time.

True, that does filter probably about 75% of posts, but it keeps the
signal to noise ratio amongst what I read down to manageable levels.

I will never killfile Richard Miller, rasf1's biggest asshole. If I did I
would miss jewels like the double nominee for the longest sentence and the
longest run on sentence in usenet this year. Amazingly, this bozo claims
he's a lawyer:

"I'm just gobsmacked that somebody can think that Hamilton's race at the
Nurburgring, with downpours, safety cars, a crash in qualifying and two
in the race that were not his fault and a bad choice of tyres causing a
further off-track excursion - and all this in his first ever wet race in
formula 1 - could in any way be compared to Massa bumbling around in an
event in which no adversity came his way at all, no bad weather, no
safety cars, to finish one place higher than he started when even
strategy should have got him several places further forward, let alone
the fact that he was driving the second fastest car against the sixth
and seventh fastest cars that he would normally lap."

Oh, absolutely!

I often get a colleague to proof-read my work, and one of her most
common comments is that I need to stop my sentences from running on for
more than ten lines.

But this isn't work. This is Usenet. So it doesn't matter so much.

The example above, I could almost hear my colleague making her usual
comment before I posted it. But I just decided I couldn't be bothered to
re-engineer it.

Too many people take F1 and this group too seriously. I have two
people in my killfile and they didn't even get there from this group.

I do have an 'n' key(only comes with special order keyboards<g>),
which moves me to the next unread message and by repeatedly tapping
it, i get past the crap quickly and see the ok stuff, if i wish to.
Note i didn't say "good stuff".. eye, beholder and all that. ;-)

that much about which way it goes.. Wrong, right, whatever..
I'm here to have a bit of fun and finding out what "cracker" means in
the US was one of the highlights of the last few days. :)

Unlike some here, i don't worship drivers or teams. Everyone is good
in something, so them being good at racing is their thing. Good on
them, but they don't give a damn about me, so i'm not going to slash
my wrists over them, or make life long enemies here by arguing it all
the way to a virtual fisty fight..
Plus after the fifth circle i tend to lose interest in ongoing
arguments.. call it an olympic mind set. :)

Have you tried NASA TV instead of Sky?

You don't get the idiots talking over everything :-)

Since you mention the shuttle, it was cool last night to watch the ISS
making a pass almost directly over my house and then go indoors to
watch the launch. Hopefully, tonight the ISS and Endeavour will both
be visible. You can check visibility at

But that was almost 2 days ago. You can't expect pondlife to
remember things that long.

Of course, we weren't expecting plantlife to realise that
'plonk' means actually sticking the recipient in a kill-file
so that one doesn't have to remember to pretend that you've
been plonked; that's taken as read.

Either that, or he's just a completely useless plonker.

Sky stayed out of it for most of the time though, so it wasn't too

Well, not really. I just watched the most recent pass and the ISS was
visible for about five mins as a mag. -2.4 object. And about three
min. behind was Endeavour, not as bright, but following an almost
identical track. I just used my eyes and it's still impressive -
maybe it's knowing exactly what you are looking at.

Binoculars might be better, but they move too quickly for anything
other than a motorised scope.

If I may digress a little - because the ISS base block (and several
other components) were launched from Baykonur the orbital inclination
was fixed at 51.6 degrees, which is what the Soviets/Russians have
used for most of their manned flights. The inclination means that the
ISS (and shuttle) never fly further north nor south than 51.6 degrees.
It was only when I checked the website above that I discovered that
Wantage just happens to be 51.58 degrees N, so when visible they are
flying almost directly over my house.
