Another spectator at the Monaco event was recently-retired F1 ace
Eddie Irvine, who watched the action from his luxury yacht Anaconda.
And if the 37-year-old Ulsterman was missing his F1 cockpit after a
ten-year career, he didn't let it show:
'I have my boat here, I have loads of friends from Italy here, my
sister has just opened a new club here and I'm still famous,' he
smiled.

That's the same quote. So that's, er, let me just check up... yep,
*once* he's said it. Somebody has a fixation... hmmm... ;o)

He's also sharp enough to have employed a very astute (and highly
rated) fund-manager to look after his investments. It's unlikely that
finance is going to be much of a worry for him. He may be a gobshite

I like Eddie. He makes a big noise whatever he's doing and no matter what

So no doubt he won't.

He's just having you all on, and in doing so, is revealing more about this

My mistake. I thought he said it in more than one interview.

Hedge fund? Probably most of it is offshore or 15% special tax rate
in Ireland for celebs.

Possibly the sharpest business mind of any F1 driver in a long time.
Schumi & Willi Webber are smart at maximizing his earnings in F1 but
Irvine's stuff is outside F1.
He kept his father petrol station open late & on weekends to earn
more.
He and his father scrounged parts for karts.
He traded/sold cars to finance his racing in Formula Nippon.
Somehow he wheeled an dealed a sponsorship from a Japanese oil company
(Cosmo?) in F Nippon to where he was being paid $1 million or so. He
took a pay cut to drive for Jordan.
He supposedly talked stocks/equities with Sir Frank W all the time.
Bought houses all over the world to rent them out.
Jody Scheckter made a bundle when he sold his security company that
did simulations to train cops but I heard the technology was dodgy. I
think Dade County (Miami) bought one of the simulators and it never
worked well. Could have been a different company but I don't think
so.
"Irvine-aphobes"...
Sad tossers, the lot.

Hmm. Very few fund managers have made much of a success of it lately.
And some decidedly dodgy ones have preyed on the rich and "famous"
over the year...

dodgy.. And he's *gooood*.. :-)

I wouldn't dispute that.. But then, looking at all the totty on his
yacht, it doesn't seem to have held him back over-much.. :-)

Aha, back at ya! It's either an Oscar winning performance or method
acting taking to ridiculous extremes... :-P

I have the misfortune to have picked up one from Equitable Life and
another from Standard Life during my long and varied career. I'm not
bothering to start a new one and am looking at the property route for
my last 10 (hopefully) working years...

I suppose some of 'em still have to be! I thought Irvine's investments
were mainly in the property market anyway?

If the "method" consisted almost entirely of living on a yacht,
shagging beautiful women and driving fast cars... which technique
would you choose? Think carefully, it might be a trick question. ;o)

I couldn't possibly answer that! Anyway, as I've no doubt you knew, I
meant that he is often too damn good at acting stupid for it to be
acting...

I know how you feel, David.

Convert them all to cash and put the whole lot on Schuey to be DWC this
year?

My dear wife would have no problem with the yacht or the cars... :-)
>hm.. now how do i explain that i'm turning green ? ;-)
Green and orange have other connotations where Irvine comes from but I
don't think we want to start that one rolling again...
Last year, the odds would have been two short to worth bothering - the
way it's going this year, I could lose the lot...

Flog the proper boat and buy a gin-palace, they find themselves. ;o)
Am I limited to one?

Well how do you drive a fast car round a yacht - even one the size of
Eddies?

There are some levels to which a dedicated rag-and-stick man, like wot
I am, will not stoop.. I love gin, but not in palace-fulls.. :-)
