Could someone please tell me how fast an F1 car can acclerate from
0mph (or kph)? I would appreciate your help!

Thanx,

Oh, dear, here we go again. It depends on how you set it up
aerodynamically. A car running Monaco setup would be dramatically
slower to accelerate than a car running Hockenheim setup. Similarly,
there is no standard F1 engine; some are more powerful than others.

If all you want is VERY approx numbers for a medium downforce/drag
setup, I would guess 0-100mph in 5secs, and 0-170mph in 10secs.
Equally, I am fully prepared for our wiser ng brethren to throw rocks at
me for that estimate.

Shouldn't Monaco setup be geared towards more acceleration and
Hockenheim for more top speed?

Based on Williams' press data, 0-160 kph (0-100 mph) under 4 secs. I'd
guess that 0-170 is also a bit lower...

actually the 1993 ferrari could get from 0 to 100km/h in 2.5s and
200km/h in 4.9s in monza. that's right, 100-200 faster than 0-100km/h.
info from Wheels mag of oz. i think the current (1997) cars should be at
least as fast if not better. the reason is that last year's 3.0L engines
were only about 50hp down from 1994's 3.5L, considering this year's
engines are even only slightly better than 1996s but with better
aerodynamic (as we can see from this year's lap times), their
acceleration should be at least on par with 1993s if not better.

Bridgestone commercial says that F1 car will go to 0-200kph in 4 secs.
Shell-Ferrari commercial said that F1-car will go to 0-320kph faster than
normal streetcar goes 0-100kph (10-12secs??). 1998 F1-cars are completely
different thing...and commercials are commercials.

I actually had that mag and lost it. Included in the story was a run
down on g-forces and braking distances/times for the car - any chance
you could post them.

The awerage numbers I have from "Sport*Auto" from a Williams are:
Km/h seconds
0-100 2.6
0-160 4.0
0-200 5.1
0-300 11.7

Anyone got numbers on that increasingly incredible braking?

I have the issue of Road&Track in which they tested a '86 Benetton BMW
which was detuned to approx 900BHP. I belive Teo Fabi was the driver
testing the car in UK. 0-60mph was 3.2 but 100 - 160 mph was 2.8!
The test data showed a considerable lag in the standing start but pretty
much a straight line afterwards up to about 165mph. Lateral G's were in
the range of 3g's with braking in around 4.5g's. The car was geared for
a top speed of approx 192mph. The guest driving journalist commented
that when He was somewhat confortable with the car, He tried flooring it
in 5th gear (6-speed trans) at 140mph and got considerable wheel spin in
a straight line.

The May, 1976 issue of Road & Track magazine has a test of the
Ferrari 312B3. Niki Lauda's car, tested by Phill Hill at Riverside.

0-60 mph 2.4
0-100 4.3
0-140 7.0

brakes: 100-0 mph 258 ft. "overall brake rating: excellent (!)"

Here's the best part: List price - $125,000 !!!!!!!

it was actually 1992's ferrari (f92a) at the Mugello circuit. now here
is the data...

F1 F40
-------------------------------------------
0-100km/h time(s) 2.5 4.56
dist(m) 33.7 70
g-force(g) 1.13 0.7

0-200km/h time 4.9 11
dist 136.5 396
g-force 1.15 0.67

max speed (km/h) 330 326.2

max deceleration (g) 3.4 1.17

transverse accel (g) 4.31 1.29

also, jean alesi said, "if you lift your foot off the gas at 300km/h you
decelerate as suddenly as if you had slammed on the brakes." (as
downforce can triple the F92A's 505kg kerb weight, loading the tyres
with more than 1500kg)

hope these help!!! cya!

I remember a magazine testing a FW15C a few years ago. For the life of me I
can't remember the figures (Dooh!), but they were bloody incredable. ~5.5s for
0-150 and ~1s for 150-0. It cornered quite well too :-)
