John Bisignano grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, where is dad is a
well known resurant owner. He makes the local papers every few
years. The last time was a few years ago when he had problems
seeing his child after a divorce. He was living in Colorado,
I think.
He did quite a bit of racing when he was young. I think
perhaps it was F3000 and maybe F5000 here in the states.
He was Mark Donahue's press agent and while he was working
for ESPN, he had a marketing company that, among other things,
lined up USF&G as a sponsor for Arrows.
I thought he was the best they've ever had too, especially
when he had it all to himself when ESPN first started covering
races. Eventually he got paired with someone else, then moved
to the pits. He covered one Indycar race also. He had class.

When ESPN started carrying F1 back in the early or maybe mid eighties,
John B. was it, period. He was a solo commentator over a purchased feed.
It was a year or two later that he got a co-announcer, then later still
when he was moved to the pits. His solo work was his best.
I don't know why he left, except possibly his involvment with business
deals with some teams migh have been viewed as a conflict by some.

I don't know what he's doing full time these days, but at last year's
Montreal GP, Grand Prix Tours sponsored an auction, and John Biz was the
auctioneer, with David Hobbs giving descriptions of such items as the lug
nuts from a Schumacher car. I think it was in support of a Mechanics
hard-luck fund, or something like that. Apparently, Jackie Stewart had
something to do with it too. So the man is still alive and associated
with racing, at least...

John Bisigiano was NOT replaced by David Hobbs. He worked with David Hobbs and
Bob Varsha in undoubtedly the best commentary team that ESPN has had covering
f1. I wish all three of them were back together again. I bet Varsha probably
wishes so, too. I get the feeling they had a lot of fun.

Using http://www.switchboard.com I found a John Bisignano living in
Bristol CT. The home of ESPN I think. My guess is that he is still with
ESPN.
I sure would like to see that team come back.

You are correct. I've driven by there once or twice; pretty unimpressive,
actually - if memory serves me, it's a lot smaller than one might expect
of the headquarters of such a big station. Then again, it's been a
while. It just sneaks up on you - you're driving along (I forget the
route number) and all of a sudden there's a fenced-in area with multiple
large and impressive-looking satelite dishes, and of course the building
housing the studios, and you sort of say, "Oh, hey, that's ESPN, isn't
it..." :) A few of my friends - diehard Sportscenter fans - took a tour
there and were most impressed.
