The Belgian Police will investigate a fight, which involved Jos Verstappen.
The fight took place on an indoor Kart track. He wanted to drive with a
couple of friends and did not want anyone else there. Another group did
come onto the track and one man even overtook Verstappen, this resulted in
a fight, which left a 45 year old man in hospital. He has a fractured jaw
and a crack in his scull.
The investigation will probably last a couple of days.

This is indeed the only true story.
The man, injured by Verstappen, is staying in the hospital of Genk
(North-east of Belgium) which is the city I am living in.
I heard an interview with the injured man on local television last night and
I can assure you : he is really badly injured, like you already said.
Verstappen will have to explain the whole story before court.
This kind of things are not allowed to happened, certainly not by a
sportsman like Jos Verstappen. To my opinion, a punishment is at its place
in this matter.

Don't know anything about Belgian law, but some U.S. celebrity athletes have
avoided criminal prosecution and received defendants verdicts from juries in
damage suits by the parties who claimed the celebrity injured them. Charles
Barkley, the National Basketball Association star, comes to mind. I think
he may have got away with this twice. His defense was that he was
approached and dealt with so aggressively by the complaining party that he,
Barkley, was forced to get physical with the guy who later sued him. I
believe that the local authorities declined to prosecute Barkley criminally
on both occasions. How this will all play out under Belgian law remains to
be seen, but the facts giving rise to the beating administered by Verstappen
will likely have a lot to do with whether or not he is prosecuted criminally
or held liable for civil damages.

Did this cretin really split some poor guy's skull just because he
passed him on a kart track [stiffled giggle] ? I didn't think scum like
that survived long outside of prisons, armies and police forces...

I always said thet Jos Verstappen could not drive, I always disliked him!!
He is unsporty too, he even fights with people on a cart trach, because he
loses from a 14 year old.
I realy hope the the FIA kicks his but into the gravel and then out of every
track. He is not worth an F1 car.

van zware mishandeling

Autocoureur Jos Verstappen wordt ervan verdacht een 45-jarige man uit het
Belgische Lanaken deze week ernstig mishandeld te hebben op de Grand Prix
kartbaan in die plaats.
Volgens ooggetuigen ging de Limburgse coureur volledig door het lint toen
hij tijdens een nachtelijke kartwedstrijd voorbijgereden werd door de
15-jarige Valerio Sacca uit Maastricht.
Emiel Kerkhofs werd slachtoffer toen hij de ruzie wilde sussen. De man werd
met een schedelbreuk, een gebroken oogkas, een hersenschudding en een
gebroken kaak opgenomen in het St. Janshospitaal in Genk. Ook een
baancommissaris, een toeschouwer en Kerkhofs zoontje Yves (14) kregen rake
klappen bij de knokpartij. Zij hebben inmiddels alle vier aangifte gedaan.
Verstappen (26), die gisteren ontkende geslagen te hebben, maakte zich
direct na de vechtpartij met zijn zes man tellende gezelschap uit de voeten.
'The Boss'
De op dit moment baanloze Formule 1-coureur schreef zich maandagavond rond
tien uur in bij het Grand Prix kartcentrum in Lanaken als 'Joss the Boss'.
Volgens de Belgische eigenaar van het indoorcircuit, Jamaer Edmond (47),
wilde Jos met zijn relaties de baan voor hen alleen om een wedstrijdje te
rijden.
Edmond: "Valerio Sacca had zich ook ingeschreven. Hij kreeg van ons
toestemming om met hen mee te rijden. In de laatste ronde ronde slipte Jos.
Hij sprong uit zijn kart en liep boos op Valerio af. Hij sleurde hem uit de
kart. Er was wat geduw en getrek. Emiel Kerkhofs wilde tussenbeide komen.
Hij kreeg een klap van Jos terwijl Jos' vader Frans Verstappen Kerkhofs
zoontje Yves een mep verkocht."
Deze lezing wordt bevestigd door de baancommissarissen, de slachtoffers en
vier andere getuigen, die inmiddels door de Rijkswacht gehoord zijn.
Slachtoffer Emiel Kerkhofs: "Ik riep nog 'Kom jongens, geen ruzie maken'.
Maar toen werd ik van achteruit op mijn oog geslagen. Ik draaide me om en
zag dat het Jos Verstappen was. Ik kreeg van hem nog een knietje in mijn rug
waardoor ik voorover viel."
Het slachtoffer kwam ongelukkig terecht op de betonnen vloer en raakte
bewusteloos. Volgens eigenaar Edmond vluchtte Verstappen met zijn gezelschap
hals-over-kop weg toen Kerkhofs bloedend op de baan lag.
Jos Verstappen liet aan deze krant weten dat hij boos werd omdat hij van de
baan gedrukt zou zijn door de 15-jarige Sacco. "Er ontstond een
woordenwisseling maar geen vechtpartij. Kerkhofs was stomdronken. Kort
daarvoor was hij al van de trap gevallen", aldus Verstappen. "Die
verwondingen moet hij daaraan overgehouden hebben. Wij zijn in het tumult
direct vertrokken."
De Rijkswacht van Lanaken twijfelt echter aan deze versie. "Kerkhofs was
beslist niet dronken", weet woordvoerder Peters. "Dat hij van de trap
gevallen zou zijn, achten wij zeer onwaarschijnlijk. Wij vermoeden dat
Verstappen er moeite mee had dat hij door dat manneke voorbij gereden werd.
Toen is het uit de hand gelopen", aldus de zegsman. "Jos had er trouwens
beter aan gedaan te wachten tot wij gearriveerd waren. Ik denk dat hij nu
een groot probleem heeft."
Ook Kerkhofs ontkent dat hij dronken was. "Waarom vluchten ze dan? Als je
niks gedaan hebt, hoef je ook niet weg te lopen. Ik vind het zeer laag wat
er gebeurd is maar nog lager dat hij nu zo'n verhaal ophangt. Als hij mij de
volgende dag opgezocht had, had niemand het hoeven te weten. Nu laat ik het
er niet bij zitten."
