I'm sure some of you in here who've modified a Mini, Pinto or Chevy engine
will have read the books of or at least heard of the engine specialist and
technical author David Vizard. He's been my friend, mentor and confidante
for over 30 years. He emailed me to say that his beloved 18 year old
daughter Jacqueline, who suffered from severe depression, took her own life
last week. Needless to say his world, and that of his entire family has
collapsed.

There's a guest book online at the website of the funeral home who are
handling this. Just type "Jacqueline Vizard" into google. I'm sure he would
appreciate a few words from those his expertise has helped even if they
didn't know the family.

So sad. Why is it that, in these days of plenty, so many young people
are minded to take their own lives. What are we doing wrong? Or was it
ever so?

Anyway my deepest sympathy to David and his family.

I was discussing this recently. It's possibly hormone related. In the
way that boys turn into a grunting alien species in their middle teens,
girls have similar problems, which may not be helped by being on the
pill and not being able to discuss their 'issues'.

A 19 year old relative has been cutting herself and fucked up her first
year at uni - she doesn't feel close to her parents, etc etc.

We had a parent set him self on fire in the garage, here in Port
Washington LI and set off a propane bottle, they just got the wife and
child out of the house in time. Not all of his parts were found.
He posted on facebook that he was going out big time, and so did a
husband in Pennsylvania before he killed his wife in front of his kids
then shot himself on Staten Island after he dropped his kids off at a
CVS drug store.

It is not age related it is facebook.

Two different phenomena, both related to the almost complete removal of us
as a species from our roots, planet, food production, seasonal changes,
extended family etc. Things that are hard-coded into our makeup, routines
that are no longer getting stimulation and leaving us feeling like there's a
hole in our lives without knowing what or why.....

Some turn to facebook to try to fill that hole but it's not the answer.
However when you're 'internally' desperate....

People want to be noticed, they want to be famous either with the good
or evil route. The example of the most notorious person in the last
century is routinely on television or mentioned regularly. Sort of the
bench mark for true evil.
Currently the method is to give little or no publicity to mass murderers
as it helps to avoid copy cats or people that celebrate and embrace such
behavior.
I remembers cheers on the high school football team it was kill the
other team, boy have times changed.
But now it a case of leave your mark on facebook and go commit your
perverse act, somebody is going to notice you. It is often the easy way
out, you feel you are in control in your last act.
The sad part of the explosion and an example of piss poor human behavior
it was just up the street from a restaurant/bar and all the patrons were
standing out side drinking and watching the fire. I wonder if they knew
what the funny smell was?
