The team will be called Danka Arrows Yamaha and, according to
their Internation sponsorship manager, it is a 2 year deal and
the amount is at least "comparable" to the normal tobacco
title sponsorships.
Looks like Tom has hit the jackpot.

Especially as none of the other sponsors are going to object being
associated with a bunch of office equipment, and they can use the same
paint job for all 17 races. If we add in the ridiculous amounts of money
Parmalat are giving, the Power Horse money and the other sponsors; is
Arrows the best funded team on the grid?
At this rate I might even start believing Tom when he says they'll win at
least 2 - 3 races in 97.
Damon appears to have good luck with cell phone and office equipment. I think
Ricoh copiers sponsored him in his Formula Ford and F3000 days. What is the
total? Free factory engines which is probably worth $5 to 8 million. Was it
$12 million from Danka? Parmalat/Diniz dad was about $7 million at Ligier. I
think Rosset's dad was ponying up $10 to 12 million, so Tom told Pedro's dad to
couch up more. I would expect $8 to 9 million. Power Horse was the main sponsor
in 1996 so I would guess at least $6 million. Let's say other sponsors kick in
$5 million more. I come up with about $27 million. Williams budget is about
$50 million plus and Ferrari are supposed to be blowing $150 million or more.
Minardi was probably about $16 to 18 million. I think Benetton is around $39 to
45 million. What do you think Christine?
I re-watched Japan 1996 and Katayama did not get blown away too badly by the
Williams on Suzuka's straight. The Yamaha, if reliable, may be pretty good. TWR
did a great job with the Joest Porsche (with the TWR chassis) in the winning
this year's LeMans. How good are the TWR engine guys? Also who will do the
Arrows 1997 chassis? I thought Alan Jenkins left Arrows after TWR took over.

Danka is an office equipment company that was started in the U.S. approx
20 yrs ago. The company was started by Dan Doyle, who is currently the
CEO. I believe that the DANKA name comes from the names of his children
(Dan jr. and Karen), but don't hold me to this. Doyle Racing/DANKA has
been involved in IMSA for several years sponsering Wayne Taylor. Last
year the Doyle Racing/DANKA car was the "Factory" team for Riley and
Scott. In 1996 they won Daytona, Sebring and a few other races which
gave them the IMSA WSC championship. They also ran at LeMans.
On the business side. Danka is an office equipment company that is
based out of Tampa, Fla. A British firm bought the company a few years
ago but left Dan Doyle in charge. Danka sells products from a number of
different mfgs. such as Canon, Sharp, and Ricoh among others. Danka
also recently acquired the sales and marketing arm of the KODAK copier
business, which was a huge coup is their business.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Doyle last year at Daytona, he is
a heck of a nice guy. He is also a fierce businessman and competitor.
I believe we may have a new winning team in F1.
I think you're a bit off. The entire turnover at Williams is 50 odd
million so I think the sponsorship for their F1 cars is about 36 million.
Benetton is losing money from its sponsors as they had performance
clauses. And Ferrari..... well, Agnelli had problems with the other
family member in the holding group about the 'Ferrari Installments'. I
think they have less of a blank cheque this year. Which is probably why
they're selling their old engines.

We'll know better when we see what's slapped on the car but it looks
about right.

Here is my opinion (estimates of course):
Danka $20 million
Parmalat $12 million
Power Horse $ 6 million+
Bridgestone $ 7 million
Free engine $ 5 million+ (TWR has a hand in the development)
Other sponsors $ 5 million
Grand total $55 million + the TWR budget(What it takes).
Ferrari's budget includes ground up engine development, but they've always
had way too much money anyway.

Frank Dernie(Williams/Benetton/Ligier) designed the 1997 Arrows.
The Danka Arrows-Yamaha :-) will probably not be competetive until
May/June when the new Yamaha engine arrives. According to early
reports TW is going to use '96 Yamaha's(KABOOOM!) in the first races.

I've just noticed Danka ads on the boards at hockey games in the past
week or so, and a radio ad on a Seattle station. Don't know if they've
just expanded their advertising or if I'm only noticing them now because
of the Arrows announcement.

I've never seen the Danka name before, but from what I've read so far, I
take it that it's a pretty big company. So I'm wondering if anybody can
tell me what their main colours are? Just to see if they'll show up
prominantely on the new Arrows.

I was rather surprised to see billboards advertising the Kodak copier-
Danka connection just last week here in Atlanta. The Danka/F1/Schuie
sponsorship is the first and only time that I had heard of Danka and
was glad to learn of the connection to Kodak in this group. I am sure
that the look on my face was interesting as I tried to reread a
billboard, which I was flying by at ~75 mph, thinking "huh Michael's
sponsor is selling Kodak copiers?".
Cheers, Mike

From what I recall of their WSC entries, the Danka car was white with
a pretty largeish "Danka" logo in dark (navy?) blue. Sigh... yet
another white and blue car in F1.

Their logo is a blue italic font DANKA on white. They've sponsored, and
will continue, an IMSA team officially known as:
"Danka Racing Pirelli Oldsmobile Factory Riley & Scott III World Sports Car
Team" :-)
That car has the blue/white colorscheme of Danka so we've probably got
another
Williams/Benetton/Tyrrell lookalike on our hands.

: Alright, alright. One of Michael's previous sponsors. When (notice
: I did not say if) I see Damon on the podium with a Danka hat like I
: have seen Michael, then it will be etched into my mind.
When did Schumacher have sponsorship from Danka? Might you be confusing
Danka with Dekra, the German company who's hat Schumacher could often
be seen wearing last season?
It must be the off season, we're arguing about sponsors for crying out
loud...

Alright, alright. One of Michael's previous sponsors. When (notice
I did not say if) I see Damon on the podium with a Danka hat like I
have seen Michael, then it will be etched into my mind. Let us
hope that we do not see Michael lighting up any fags on the podium.

You probably confusing Danka (Arrows title sponsor) with Dekra which
is Schumacher's sponsor.

Shurely shome mistake? Mike must mean Dekra...
What the hell do they do anyway?

Thank you. I am confusing Dekra with Danka. You are right, we are
getting desperate for things to talk about here. We need some
new car testing to talk about instead...
