The story rings a bell, but I can't find it. He was involved in
Brabham.
Here follows a brief(?) summary of the 89/90 shinanigans. During that
time everyone and his uncle owned Brabham, it seems. The following is
from my web site:
10/19/89 Brabham presses ahead with design of next years car,
a development of the BT59.
10/19/89 Sergio Rinland linked to leave Brabham.
12/07/89 Pirro and Modena linked to Brabham
12/07/89 Mike Earle and Jo Chamberlain quit Onyx, and look set
for owning Brabham. Porsche also linked to team.
12/14/89 Brabham courted by two possible buyers.
12/21/89 Brabham look set to be sold to Middlebridge with
Earle and Chamberlain at the helm.
01/11/90 Mike Earle and Jo Chamberlain move into control at
Brabham, however the team is still owned by Joachim Luhti through his
Kingside Establishment company which is in trouble.
01/18/90 Onyx and Brabham are linked to a deal to run Porsche
V12 engines.
02/01/90 Martin Brundle quits Brabham due to non-payment of
wages.
02/08/90 Mike Earle and Jo Chamberlain are sacked by Brabham
according to owners.
02/15/90 Peter Windsor rejects attempts to lift injunctions on
Brabham team.
02/22/90 Gregor Foitek is signed for Brabham.
03/01/90 Middlebridge gets closer to buying Brabham, with
Peter Windsor lifting his action against the team.
03/08/90 The Middlebridge take over of Brabham looks to have
been blocked by the liquidator of the parent company Kingside
03/08/90 Onyx denies stories of merger with Brabham
03/29/90 David Brabham linked to Brabham drive from San Marino
GP. Gregor Foitek to be sacked.
04/05/90 David Brabham signs for Brabham
04/05/90 Sergio Rinland rejoins Brabham from Tyrrell.
04/26/90 Brabham and Yamaha close to deal for 1991.
05/10/90 Brabham Judd BT59, the work of Sergio Rinland, is
launched.
06/07/90 New Brabham delayed
06/28/90 First Brabham Yamaha set to test.
07/05/90 The Brabham Yamaha BT58Y is tested.
08/09/90 The Brabham team is locked out of its factory.
Stories circulate that the team is yet again in trouble, this time
over Middlebridges purchase of a possibly dodgy Bentley for ś6.8
million.
08/16/90 Brabham gets back into factory.
09/20/90 Brabham Yamaha deal signed for 3 years.

Thanks for all that Stephen. I'd forgotten just how tangled a web it
was. Perhaps the above fits in with my query?

I think it probably does. I'll see if I can find any mention of it.
It may have been early 91 when the beating happened, or it may have
been before '89. It does ring a bell, however. Anyone?
