I've been hard at work creating the complete GPL online Track database
:-)

Find ALL GPL tracks with ratings, cover page pictures, maps, download
links, info on type of track, length, country, how hilly or flat it
is, who created it, description and comments and a lot more. You can
browse, sort, search...

http://magnust.d2g.com

If you want to create track set files (season.ini files) you just
search for the tracks you want and hit the button "Get season file"!
Works with GEM+ and all other track changer tools.

A basic Track Set Changer utility is also available for download on
the first page. To start GPL with a specific set of tracks you just
simply doubleclick on the track set file itself and go!
Some ready track set files are included like:
- "NO flat stuff - Fun road courses!"
- "Cosy Club Circuits"
- "All Ovals"
- "US tracks only"
- "Papyrus original tracks"
and so on....

Cheers!

/Magnus T

BTW: Please also come by and submit your ratings on all tracks you
know well! This is valuable info for everyone in the GPL community!

people have put into GPL.

Or not...

What have you got against Austria, Magnus? No O'ring, no Zeltweg?

No NASCAR Riverside? (A Noonan conversion from NASCAR Legends.)

No Portfast (without the grotesquely inappropriate "Festival" chicane). I
must admit I've lost count of Portland (and Sears) variants.

No Thruxton, fergoshsake?

And no ovals: Atlanta, Chsrlotte, Fontana, Gateway, Homestead, Indy,
Lausitz, Louden, Milwaukee, Michigan, Phoenix, Pocono, Texas, Trenton...just
to name a few?

And I might quibble with several of your turn counts: Suzuka, *four* turns?
(Even the Indycar circuit had more.)

It would be really nice--that is, useful--to have either the real-world lap
records, or the best GPL Alien times.

But, all in all, a sterling effort! (Which is not to say 'stirling' - VBG!)

All three versions are there. David Noonan's, And Ronnie's two
versions.

Of course it's there. Did you really read the page properly ;-) Just
hit "R" and get both Noonan's and Mark Beckman's Riverside instantly.

Portfast? Now this sounds interesting! What is this?

There are three Sears version on the site.

All ovals are there! You probably missed to uncheck the "No ovals"
checkbox :-)

Hehe! It's what David Noonan entered into the track.ini! I must say
there are other tracks that have an odd count of turns in the
track.ini... I'd be MORE then happy to update the database if you send
me correct info!

True! But I started with real world times but only got so far... I
don't have a good source to get 'em.

Thruxton isn't out yet so I'm not surprised it's not on the list!

:-)

My idea is to show generally available tracks only. So only betas that
are publicly available for download are included. I try not to include
tracks that are just graphical updates (night/day versions for
example). A few tracks break these rules though - tracks that I
decided where worth a mention anyway ;-)

Opsies!

I went thru the list w/o unchecking the No Ovals box, then unchecked it and
went thru the alphabet & didn't see any. I probably missed Austria (all 3
of 'em) for some equally foolish/sloppy reason. And, as Kevin Clark points
out, Thruxton hasn't been released yet.

I can't remember who did Portfast, but as I say, it's Portland w/o the
egregious "Festival" chicane, the biggest impediment to motor racing since
Jack Fairman. No matter, Portland w/o the chicane isn't that much improved.
I didn't like it much in IndyCar Racing, CART Racing, or on ESPN.

If I ever have a lotta time on my hands, I'll count all the number of turns
@ all the tracks, although exactly what constitutes a turn at a track like
the Ring or Solitude isn't always obvious. It might be fun to *add up* the
number of turns and miles we have available to us--it's probably stretch all
the way from fulfillment to heaven.

Thanks for all yer work...and yer corrections to my ill-considered comments!

Hi Steve,

you've got to set the number of tracks to search to something above 123
(currently), else it limits the search to 64 tracks. Best is probably to
something above 256 if the new tracks keep coming at the speed they've come
in the last year ;-)

Agree! There is an ever ongoing discussion on how many turns the real
Nürburgring Nordschleife *really* has, hehe!

Here's what the database answered :-)

Sum Of Length: 543,7183 miles
Sum Of Turns: 2041 turns
(from 154 tracks, but a few tracks are missing this data and have it
set to 0)

Avg Of Length: 3,57709407894737 miles
Min Of Length: 0,363 miles
Max Of Length: 19,573 miles

Avg Of Turns: 13,4276315789474 turns
Min Of Turns: 1 turn (which to me sounds a *bit* odd, hehe!)
Max Of Turns: 174 turns

LOL!!

Yep!

Is that half a million (543,7183 miles) or nearly 544 (543.7183 miles)? Commas,
periods!?! Whose numbering system are we using? Hint: stats for track length.

So what do you think about this one then:
Average track length: 3,57709407894737 miles

Hehe!

Sorry about the confusion, it's the way we use commas in my country :-)

Thanks Magnus. Useing Netscape 4.61 I was having a problem with the
alphabetic search line appearing vertically instead of horizontally.
Works fine now.
