Is that in real Earth time, or GP3 slo-mo time?

Erh? ..... No. apart from the weather maybe. but graphically F12K Slaps GP3
in the face with a wet fish :) and IMO physics are slightly better.

No f%cking way. F12000 is the worst F1 sim in recent history, and
proves that EA can only make Arcade games, not simulations.
Maybe there has been a patch to the game, but if not, it still stinks
with poor AI, poor controls, lousy graphics compared to CPU.

GP3 looks great in 1024*700 which my "little" P2-400/TNT2 easily can
run.

I'm wondering about all this stuff I see about GP3 being so bad myself

I finally got a my hands on a proper copy last night and found a 1 hour
time slot for some testing, NFS Porsche is damn fun :-)

I like it, no, "it's no GPL" :-), but GPL aside, I've never driven a
better F1 sim, not to me anyway, and as far as I'm concerned, it's the
best modern F1 sim, I even managed to get my pedals to work in split
axis mode using the "calibration driven...." something option, although
the brakes seemed to "drag" if that's the proper term, but at least they
were recognized as such

Yes I agree that with 4 years of development time, it could have been
"more" than it is, but what it is ain't bad, GFX look good in 1024x768
on my GEForce256 and runs with less that 40% occ on my P3-700, which
should be good news for those with "lesser" PC's

Physics, well, I managed to spin quite frequently last night, both in
the wet and the dry, wheel spin in 3rd in the wet, seemed a bit "canned"
perhaps, but then again you don't see many of the F1 drivers catch their
cars once they've gotten it really sideways either

Will I play it as much as I played GP2 and GP before it, no, my interest
in F1 isn't what it used to be and it's not good enough as a sim in
itself for me to spend that kind of time with it, but I consider it
money well spent and a fine addition to my extensive collection of sims,
one that I would have felt was missing if I had DL'ed the warez version
and didn't have a proper copy, I think this is one of those sims that
"grow" on you

Beers and cheers

Exactly what do you mean by cold tires? Also you were in top gear
had your foot mashed on the gas and never let up??? Is that what
you are describing here?

(Grin) If you'd have read the manual you would have seen you could
turn driver aids off. (Also you don't have "cold tyres" in modern F1 -
if anything new tyres fresh from blankets are warmer)

Don't know what was wrong at your end, but my 700 runs at 40-50% occ
with everything on in 1024x768, I AM disappointed about the 25 FPS max
though, and the reports that it will bog down when played over a LAN is
not too encouraging, as is the lack of MP over i-net, but apart from
that, I'm fairly happy, but I still have less than 2 hours with it
though....

Turn off all driving aids. Geez!

Geforce 2 is CRAP? No, something is wrong with your system.

Can you map keys to the paddles of your wheel (brand?)?

Huh? You'd like to do some spreadsheet work at the same time, or what
do you mean with 100% cpu load?

I keep hearing everyone talk about how disappointed they are with GP3
based on the fact that it was in development for 4 years. I can
understand the disappointment, but I for one am hardly surprised that
GP3 fails to meet many of our expectations. Any computer
game/simulation that is in development for more than about a year or 2
is almost always a disappointment upon release. Computer hardware
performance increases so rapidly that a game designed to take advantage
of today's systems will generally be viewed as ancient in 4 years.
Thus, if a game is in development for a couple of years, the progammers
are left with the decision of either continuing with the current model
(which will be less than state-of-the-art by the time it is completed)
or starting over from scratch so that new hardware and software
technologies can be used. Obviously Mr. Crammond and team chose to
stick with the original game design and graphics engine, even though it
is not state-of-the-art by today's standards. I'm sure the opinions we
all have of GP3 would be substantially different had it been released 3
years ago. Whether the long delay in the release of this product was
due to insufficient funding from the publisher during development, or
from a design team that was too small or not skilled enough to get the
product out the door within a reasonable timeframe (18 months or less?)
I will probably never know.

So what is my point? Actually, I have no idea... (sorry for wasting
your time if you have actually read this far!). I guess just that GP3
is a fine product -- if we can just mentally turn back the clocks to
1998 and pretend that computer games/simulations/graphics/etc... have
not evolved past that point...
