Does anyone out there know of any sources of tire performance curves
that give cornering force and aligning moment as a function of slip
angle and vertical load?

You can use Pacejka's Magic Formula (there are a bunch of variations
though) for that. Pacejka recently finished a book on his latest
formula (and other tire stuff).

Racer uses car.ini files which contains Pacejka sets. Some may have
been tweaked to get a somewhat different tire, but they're mostly
based on about 5 base sets. Try www.racer-xtreme.com and download some
cars to get some Pacejka sets (note I'm using quite an old Pacejka
formula with a, b and c coefficients.

You can see a (half-finished) explanation of the formula at
http://www.racer.nl/reference/pacejka.htm

Good luck, (good data on this is hard to come by)

Hi Sebastien,

Our HTTP is down for the most part, but a query did manage to get
this:
Tyre and Vehicle Dynamics (although it may also be called Tyre
Mechanics & Vehicle Dynamics; the first print actually had the words
Mechanics and Dynamics switched, so that never got released :) ).

Surprised you hadn't heard about it yet.

Happy reading (I must start reading it one day; it's well, somewhere
in my house ;-) ).
