Hi to all, I've been reading this newsgroup for a couple of
days now and saw you talking about the specs for GP2. And
all that came out of your discussion is that it should run
fine under P or PP 200mhz!!! I hope not since SH or MP is
saying that the recommanded system (to have the basic) is a
486-66mhz with 8megs RAM (and multimedia), so I'm assuming
that anybody with a system having higher spec then this
should be OK.

The problem lies in your definition of "okay" - what do YOU think will
be okay? VGA with no textures? Then you're sorted. SVGA with good fps?
Forget it. I think you're looking at the P-100 level to get the choice
of high texture VGA or low texture SVGA.

Reportedly the development team use a 486-66 and are happy with it, so
you'll probably be okay, at least until you see the SVGA version and
want to upgrade!!

With all the details turned off and in lowres it might run quite well
on a dx2/66 but I doubt it would be fun. It's just like Origin used to
do, the minimum specs for some of their games are just ridiculous and
it's the same with GP2.

You'll need a fully equiped Pentium to do this game justice. And I'm
crazy enough to buy one when GP2 comes out because my humble DX4/100
can't do the job properly :)

Hmmmm....
I think that's exactly the right way to go: when it is *playable* on a (and MY
:) ) DX2, you can afford to buy it already and wait and save a little longer for
a higher spec machine.

Personally I feel that this approach is the best: designing the game to be
slightly ahead of mainstream hardware makes it last longer afterwards. After
all, when I bought my DX2, it was a state-of-the-art machine. Now it looks and
feels like a turtle (and an ugly one).I can imagine that at that time, many
people complained about high requirements for the original F1GP But where would
it stand now if it would have been less processor intensive?

The world of computers is evolving incredibly fast and if you want to develope a
classic, it HAS to be ahead of its time or it's crap before you know it! I mean,
the development took over three (or will it be five ? :) ) years. With that
timescale in mind, it just *needs* to be longer lasting...

Even if it only runs 25fps in SVGA with all detail on a P180, people who are
complaining NOW will be grateful in a year or two.

Be satisfied with what you GET! When the game runs fine in VGA with some
textures, ENJOY it and don't complain about the fact that others have SVGA. Just
try to forget about SVGA as long as you don't have the money to upgrade. In two
years time the standard could be 1024*768 and those people with slow P166s will
have to watch when WE have the money to get our P7 325mHz ;-)

Take it for what it is, and don't let your fun spoil by what it can be on other
machines. Just look at those features as an extra bonus that you will get later
on. They are built in, and when time passes you'll get your hands at them and
you'll enjoy it a lot longer.
