I remember walking into the arcade, and there was a huge crowd around the 50"
Daytona USA screen. It looked so impressive, so real, it was huge! Now, many
years on comes Daytona USA 2, and while the impact of the graphics isn't quite
as big as the first time, the graphics and the classic gameplay is still
amazing.
There is 4 tracks in "Daytona USA 2: Power Edition", the original 777 Speedway
circuit, a 2nd spectacular track with everything from castles and bats to space
ships landing and huge red devils jumping over the track! The 3rd track is a
huge layout going right through a city, from the hills, alley ways right to the
port (complete with fully 3D tankers and sea gulls). Finally is the 4th track,
"Challenge Course", which combines parts of all 3 previous courses into one.
Now this is A TRACK!! It's the biggest in any racing game, and you'll need to
be a true pro to get through this one!
"Will all this be in the Dreamcast version? You bet!"
Using the Model 3: Step 2 board, the graphics will blow you away! The 777
Speedway is the same layout, but wow... it looks so much better! The whole
thing is in a transparent dome, there is dense forest, hundreds of colourful
birds, a waterfall and alot more... and remember this is all running at a super
smooth 60 frames per second... with 40 detailed cars zooming round the track!
Also worth a note, is the 3rd city track... you just have to see this one! No
clipping, glitching or anything (which unfortnatly was even in the original's
arcade version) and this is rendering an entire city. True, the city is missing
the people who appear in Sega Rally 2, but at the speed your travelling, it
dosn't have too much of a difference. Something for Daytona 3 eh? A city full
of walking people. Anyway, it comes complete with all the sounds of the docks,
tunnels and more. Will all this be in the Dreamcast version? You bet!
There's also a total of 10 cars to choice from, and each one is highly
detailed, even your arms are replicated inside. Crashes are another thing
that's superior in Daytona 2. Your bonnet (and the cpu cars!) can come totally
off, and it's possible to wreck entire CPU cars and put them out of the race.
Oh and for those woundering, yes the original Hornet is in there too, and even
handles just like it used to (which is cool, but unfortantly makes it almost
impossible to power slide, doh!).
Overall, and as you've just read, I'm really excitied about Daytona USA 2.
Spectacular graphics, brilliant gameplay and as with all AM games, the learning
curve is just right (for those really curious people out there, it's easier
than Sega Rally 2 to finish, but to actually get first... that's a different
matter) make this one of THE classic games. Lets hope the Dreamcast version is
spot on, and gives Daytona USA 2 the conversion it deserves.
We have all dreaded this day would come.

A true pro? An infant can race daytona usa, and any kid with too many
quarters can get a decent time.

This is a racing game right? "a transparent dome, a dense forest, and
lions, and tigers, and bears.................oh my!"

I would walk into Sega headquarters with a large mallot before I would let
those idiots release Daytona 3. Why the hell are they even using the name
"Daytona" for the sequel, it's obvious the worthless game has nothing to do
with Daytona.

Ooh, so now you can drive around and crash into people even
more..........I'm thrilled.
I'm not gonna say I don't enjoy plunking a few quarters into a pointless
arcade racer every once in a while, but Sega is really getting on my nerves.
As if there aren't a million other things they could have called that stupid
game..........."Arcade USA", "The really neato waterfall, transparent dome
with seagulls Racing USA", or even "We're just doing this to piss poeple off
USA".

What about The 'Ring??? I think that is a "Challenge course" and it's
about 7 courses in 1! I don't know, I've never tried a Sega racing
game/demo and this defently won't change my mind! Papyrus could put
Daytona to a lot better use!

Is this really new news?? I raced Daytona2 at Sega World, Bournemouth
(South England), absolutely ages ago. Probably last summer, it really
was quite awhile back. The beginner track was very nice and the one
tricky turn could be mastered, without any dodgy physics to make you
mess up for no real reason. The cars looked great, much like the
shapes of last year than the Days of Thunder lookalikes in the
original. The idea that nerfing the rear of other cars gave you extra
speed is pretty crap in theory but in practice it was quite a funky
way to overtake... The force feedback was good and a real tug at the
wheel was needed to change course which felt suitable... Nice loud
speakers roaring in your ears too... As an arcader it seemed pretty
good but not significantly improved as a multiplayer game. It seemed
people were still using the 8-seater original presumably as they knew
the track and had had plenty of seat time.
Of course I would love to see Daytona included in N3..... especially
if N3 can give us true restrictor plate racing madness... but that's
the way things are.....
>We have all dreaded this day would come.
There is no reason why Papy and Sierra can not secure the rights for
the use of Daytona. It's all a question of money, and if the NROS gets
big enough.......

I'm guessing that by 22K you mean 22 kilometers, and if I am not wrong,
Nürburgring's 14.1 miles is somewhat close to 22 kilometers. Am I wrong on
this one?
