Can anybody tell me if higher ratio gear sets to fit Nissan/Datsun GC210 or
240,260Z etc Independent rear suspensions are available and if so where
could I get info regarding same. I'm hoping for a ratio of around 3.00:1 or
3.1:1 . I haven't heard of higher ratio gears being available here in
Australia so I'm hoping they are available in the States.
Thanks in advance

I'm not up on the foreign cars too much, but I really doubt there would be any
gears like that available anywhere. The little rice burners need all the
gear ratio they can get just to keep speed!

A bit of clarification might be in order here. I'm in the process of
rebuilding an early '70's Australian made kit car called a Bolwell Mk7.
This car was originally designed to use an Australian made General Motors
Holden 186ci pushrod straight six which compared to the Jap 6's was/is a
fairly slow revving engine. I'm considering building an IRS for my car
using the diff from a Z car or something similar. These diffs are common in
Aus but not higher ratio gears. I would rather buy another gear set if
possible and use standard drive shafts and housing etc than have to cut
down a live axle housing and make new driveshafts etc to get the ratio I
need. Putting a V8 into a Z car is fairly common in the States I believe
(correct me if I'm wrong please) so I thought/hoped that higher ratio gears
might be available over there.
Thanks for your thoughts Jim, so far yours is the only response I've had.
Regards

5 speed trannys are more common in the small cars than reasonable rearend
gears...

You might look into Fords, I dont know what they've been doing over there, but
here the Thunderbirds have had independent rear suspension for about the past
10 years, and the gear ratios would be reasonable for what you want. Probably
too wide, though.
