Hi. I am in the market of a new car, and am considering a Dodge
Avenger ES. But I'm a bit worried about its quality. If ride and
comfort are more important than acceleration, would I be better off
buying an Accord LX 2-door instead (They both cost about the same,
around $18k)? How about the new Nissan 200SX SE-R?

Thanks for your opinions.

Like poster's before you, you seem to be stuck in a dilema that can be
solved by asking..."WHAT DO YOU WANT IN YOUR CAR?"

The Avenger, Accord, and 200SX SE-R are vastly different cars. Are you
looking for performance, and nible handling? Are you looking for
comfortable soft ride? Are you looking for quick acceleration?

The Avenger is a underpowered, pseudo sports coupe. The ES is only
available with the automatic, which makes it pathetically slow. It is based
on the Galant/Eclipse/Talon/Neon...its got components from each. Nice
looks, all show, no go.

The Accord 2 door is a 2 door version of the family sedan...not much on
performance...mild manners, good build, a "sportier" version of the family
car.

The 200SX is a very nimble car, with an excellent engine in the SE-R. Not
much fun to drive long distances tho...its got a harsher ride than the above.

So what's it gonna be? What do YOU want in your car?

Hmm, the Avenger ES is this strange comglomeration of parts basically from
Mitsubushi, with some Chrysler stuff thrown in.

It was built almost entirely from the corporate parts bin at Diamondstar.

Actually I doubt the Avenger is faster than the Accord LX. Well, maybe,
hmm.

I also doubt that the Accord LX is any more comfortable than the Avenger on
long trips. I've driven both and personally preferred the seats of the
Avenger over those of the Accord(Honda's weakest point is bad seats).

The Nissan 200SX SE-R is an entirely different market. That's in
competition with the Dodge Neon Sport Coupe. And if you wante acceleration,
handling, and fun I'd suggest those two cars.

Really it depends on what you want the car to do.

Have you considered the Ford Contour? It's not a two door, but it's a very
capable sports sedan, and the prices are not that bad. For around $18k you
can get yourself a Contour SE with leather, 5 speed, V6.

Ahh, spent the weekend looking at Contours. :)
