Does anyone know what type of transmission fluid
is used in a 1988 Pontiac Fiero Formula with the
5-speed Getrag/Muncie transmission ? I haven't
been able to find it in the owner's manual or the
service manual.

Also, has anyone experienced any unusual noises
from this transmission while moving in reverse,
or when the fluid is a bit low ?

I seem to have discarded the address for the
Fiero list. Anyone know what it is ?

5W-30 motor oil, assuming the requirement is the same as for the '87
Muncie. Check the transmission dip stick as the lubrication requirement
is sometimes listed there.

Are you serious?? Every manual I've ever worked on uses 80-90 weight
gear oil. Granted the trannies I work on are pre 1973 but I wouldn't
think that the lube would change...unless tolerances are that much tighter.

Many manuals now use motor oil or ATF.
