Porsche 924

Hello out there in net.land!

I am considering buying a Porsche 924, and would like a little
info.
I know this isn't the best automobile to emerge from Stuttgart,
but hey, a Posche is a Porsche, and its a helluva lot cheaper than a 916
or 928...or even a 944.
Anyhow, I would like to know how the 924 stacks up against other
sportscars in its price range, in reliability, performance, and ease of
maintenance. Will I be constantly tinkering and fine-tuning the engine,
and get shut down by a Geo Metro in a friendly head to head down
Deadman's Curve? How difficult will it be to find parts? How much can I
expect to pay for the chronic parts? What are the parts that are chronic
troublemakers?

What should I look out for when looking one of these babies over?
Is rust and frame rot a big problem? ( I lost a 914 to frame rot. ) Any
mechanical giveaways that I am looking at a lemon?

Finally, what are the hot-rod options for this car? Are there any
kind of aftermarket performance parts available? I read somewhere that
the designer of the 924 said it would have made a better Maserati
Coupe...so that gets me thinking "Bi-Turbo", so...well, those of you with
the speed bug will understand. B)

So, if any of you has any 411 on the 924, I would be very
greatful.
