A "Mann" diesel? You mean "MAN," as in "Munchen-Augsburg-Nurnburg,"
the company that makes trucks and marine diesel engines? I didn't
know they made engines for Mercedes passenger cars. Was this
engine standard in the 240D, or optional?

SORRY. It might be a MAN and not a MANN. At any rate, that's what it says
in the book. I'll double check the engine, too, but I recall thinking
along
the same lines as you: MAN diesels were in big buses, etc.
As for if its standard or optional, I don't know. MB and diesels are a new
and
expensive (er, exciting) proposition for me.

DOUBLE SORRY. It was not a MAN, it is an OM model 616. I apologize for
being hasty in posting a question with even the "facts" wrong.
BTY, do you know what OM means? Outboard Marine maybe?
