a not too safe road). if anyone can give me some info, then please e-mail
me. i know this is going to sound bad, but if anyone knows what the hell
i have under my hood, i would appreciate it! i know it is a V6, 24-valve

The car goes at least 145 mph (1987 Supra Turbo 5-sp). I think the engine
is an INLINE-6 (not V-6) with turbo/intercooler, 24-valves with approx.
230 HP.

Um, the Supra never came with V-6 engines. It's an inline 6.
Model number 7MGE, or 7MGTE if you got a turbo. 3.0 liters.

Only if it IS a turbo... there were lots of non-turbo Supras, too, you
know, with a 3.0 Litre inline 6, 24 valve... a buddy of mine has had his
'88 non-turbo showing 220km/h on the speedo, and it was still accelerating
(albeit, at a decreasing rate). I'm not sure of the rated power on that,
but I think it was 200HP.

My 87 (non-turbo) has 200hp and supposedly a top end of 131 mph, according to
C&D. It has also had a new head and cams at 20,000 and a new shortblock at
30,000. Both were covered under warrenty, however, I had to go through
arbitration to get the shortblock. This work was done due to oil usage -- 900
-1200 miles per quart since the day I bought it new. At 59,000 miles the main
drive pulley came loose and chewed up the end of the crankshaft. New crank was
$2300 from my pocket. It has also had 3 clutches and is probably getting
ready for another one (currently 72,000 miles on the car). It had been to the
same dealer every 3000 miles since new for oil changes, etc., and still uses a
quart of oil every 1000 miles or so. I now use an independent mechanic and
will never return to the dealer nor will I ever buy another Toyota product.
This car was supposed to be a sports car, but if you try to drive it like one
it will turn into a piece of junk, as mine has, in no time.

Hmmm.. Sounds strange to me, my friend has an '88 Turbo Supra, that
has been modified to increase boost pressure, and drives this car
hard and has had no such problems in his 56000 miles (approx, I'm
converting from kms in my head :).
I would suggest that:
A) you got a lemon
B) You have a really shitty dealer
C) Like most people you are taking a single example and
extrapolating to a much larger group (ie. ALL Toyota
products & Dealers) unfairly.
D) are a slow learner as it took you (according to my
interpretation of your message) 59,000 miles to find a
better place to take your car

Nah, he might have actually had a bad one, unfortunately he/they
have not properly dealt with it.

Our '94 Supra Turbo has been (which has close to 34,000 miles
on it with NO problems) up to 150 mph, at which point the speed
limiter kicked in. (If you don't believe me just ask the
Blackfoot, Idaho police department who were not too please to see
it at that speed.)

A question for Supra fans -

While talking with a Toyota parts guy, he mentioned that there were
Toyota Supras with *twin* turbos produced from 6/88 to 3/89 ( I suppose
that would be for the 1989 model year).

In fact, in one of my aftermarket catalogs, it shows a picture of
the rear of a Mark III Supra (86.5 - 93) with a "Twin Turbo" badge.
(I think it's "Options Auto Salon")

I originally thought whoever owned that car just put that badge on,
but now I'm wondering.

Anybody know anything about this?

I was in Germany on the Autobahn tooling along at 130 in a rental BMW when
a Supra passed me like I was in reverse. He had to be going 30 MPH faster
than I was anyway.

I am not sure if there is much difference between Turbo and normally aspirated when you have got
to the top speed. I think top speed is purely a gear ratio piston travel equation. A turbo just
helps you get there faster

I used to have one of these. The thing I most loved about it was it allways wanted to go faster
than I did.

You could stay 200 yards behind people and when you wanted to overtake them apply a bit of gas
and you were past them like lightning.

I once drove it at 135 - no bull - an honest speed and it shit me up like hell, the scenery flies
past like startrek! And would you credit it the bloody thing still wanted to go faster.

I reckon they would easily get to 150, but I know cars can be strange at high speed and it might
have topped out at 136?

Excuse me. You got your Supra Turbo up to 140mph and you calling me
a moron. Did I even mention how I drove it? What does driving hard mean? I
will put the looks, paint, body, interior of my black 87 up against any Supra
with the same body style. It is garaged, covered in the summer, and washed
once a week. It looks like a new car and no one believes it's an 87. It
was the engine I was complaining about and maybe I got a lemon. I must really
be lucky, too, because as a moron I haven't received a ticket in the Supra at
all and no others in the 16+ years prior to buying it. Now, I need some wood
to knock on. Maybe your head would do ;-). Actually, I would really like to
try a later model turbo and get rid of mine because I do love everything about
the car except the non-turbo engine. So, take a Valium and calm down.

That is entirely possible.

I may have been a little strong here and I admit it. I love the car except
for the problems I have had and after thinking about it would like to trade it
for a later model Turbo.

All repairs up to the crank were taken care of under warrenty even though I
had to fight in one case. I've always taken my cars to the dealer while under
warrenty and continued to until the crank problem because I still believe
dealer mechanics are better trained for their particular model of cars.

I can't affort a 94, but if I could, I would buy a Vette instead.
