Thanks, Rhonda
Having recently gone through minivan search, I can tell you the following:
The Nissan Quest and Mercury Villager are twins. They share the same
powertrain and major body components. They are also built in the same
place in Ohio. The difference between them is in the accent body mouldings,
interior fabric/decor, what features are standard, and how the options are
grouped (or not).
Mercury has more options (e.g., the Nautica trim level, more radio options)
and allows many options to ordered separately. But I noticed that unless
you special ordered one that the dealers tended to load them with one of
the preferred equipment packages which made them similar to a Quest with
it's option packages.
Some of the standard options and package contents are different. Some are
"big" (on a basic Quest XE, ABS brakes are an option - ABS is standard on all
Villagers), some are subtle. You may want to get a brochure from each
dealer listing all the features and package contents to compare them.
Cost-wise, they are comparable. At the time I was looking, the Villager was
cheaper, mainly due to a $1,000 rebate at the time (I think this runs out early
in July).
We ended up not buying either one but we liked the Quest (mostly, I preferred
it's look over the Villager) and it made our "final two" list. A friend
has a '94 Quest and likes it. It has given them no trouble. The only thing
I hate about theirs is the "attack" motorized seatbelts (removed in place
of dual airbags in the '96s).
Hope this helps.

The Villager is the same as the Nissan Quest. The old Nissan Van was a
rwd model with the engine under the floor, like the old Toyota Van and
Mistubishi Wagon. Nissan bought all of them back due to fire hazards.
The Quest has no relation to the Nissan Van.

We bought the Villager (although I was initially leanning towards the
Quest) because it offered more options we wanted, was more availabe and
was cheaper. We've had it less than 2 years and 41,000 with no problems.
