What transmission fluid for old Ford?

You old-timers will remember that 20 years ago there were major
differences between the transmission fluids for Ford and GM vehicles.

I have a 1975 Ford F250 with 460 and three speed automatic
transmission. The manual refers to type "F" fluid (ESW-M2C33-F). I
think that current Fords use the same fluid as GM products, so I am
afraid if I simply buy fluid for current Ford products it may be
incompatible with my old tranny. I notice that the label on a bottle
of Mercon I have refers to being compatible only with Ford
transmissions made since 1983, and does not bear the above ESW...
specification.

What fluid should I be using? I presume the original spec fluid has
long since disappeared from store shelves.

Also, I had this tranny rebuilt about ten years ago. Might this mean
that the rebuilder changed over the internal parts to be compatible
with modern fluids?

WELL I SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE STORES BEFORE PRESUMING THIS STUFF WAS
HARD TO FIND. THE STUFF WITH THIS EXACT SPEC WAS SITTING THERE ON THE
SHELVES. WIFE JUST GOT BACK FROM SHOPPING TRIP AND BROUGHT ME 3 QTS.
