I've come across a new product called SHIELD AND SHINE. The parent company
of the product I believe is Forever Shine Products.

The distributor claims it's not a wax or plastic. There is no petroleum in
the product but rather it is made of 5 different plants (yes, vegitation)
and water--hence an environmental conscious solution. Anyways, what it does
is form molecular bonds to the paint surface. The application frequency
is supposed to be 4 years with a 4 month use of a wash treatment! It is
self-leveling and with not build up like wax. It will resist
fading/oxidation, cracking/peeling, tar, salt air, tree sap water-spotting
etc. during this time period. It is good to something like 1000 F. Not
bad, huh?

Does anyone out there buy this? Sounds like a pretty tall claim. I told
the distributor that there is no way I would go 4 years, but he insists
that is all it needs to be applied so long as it is washed twice a month
and the wash treatment used every 4 months. I asked if it could be store
bought and he said no. When I asked why not if it was such a great
product, he said there would be no way for the consumer to distinguish it
from the other million products on the shelf and that it would undercut
the distributors.

He claimed ALL other waxes and teflon products were really bad for the
paint and will end up causing cracking and fading of the surface. This
was due to the petroleum in them which would cause the paint to dry out.
Similar to how Armor All is suposed to be real nasty on plastics I guess.
I saw his demo car which he claims is an '87 with clearcoat (which he also
says are bad) on the original paint and always parked uncovered. It WAS in
really good shape. Oh--he said I could spray my name into his car and let
it dry for 4 days and it would come right off. Heheheh. I really wish I
had a can there.

So has anyone used this or have comments? Anybody hear of this product or
company?

BTW, both the 4 year treatment and the 4 month wash solution come in 12
ounce sizes at $20 a bottle--ouch!! I suppose that's not too bad if
that's all you had to use the stuff though.

...which is pretty much what the car manufacturers recommend, too. This
stuff doesn't sound like it's very remarkable, except for its price.
Just wash your car routinely and wax it with any reputable paste wax
every so often, and it will outshine most of the cars on the road. The
original paint on my 1982 certainly does, and I haven't used any exotic
rubbish on it -- just a coat of Rain Dance once a year (or whenever I
remember to do it :-) and a wash whenever it gets dirty. It's parked
outside, too, but its finish is holding up just fine.
